Letter to a Recent Widow

This morning, as the sun came up again, I wrote the following message to a young widow. God Bless her.

You are a naturally talented writer and have much to offer the world. As I read your words (as I have for some time now) you have eloquently expressed very human experiences that touch others deeply.

I’ve been a writer, reporter, private investigator, corporate executive and even a golf marshal for over half a century.

Today, I have 2.8 million readers for my blog on WordPress. You have the talent to do that.

Writing, prayer and kindness has gotten me through the human experiences of loss, tragedies, sabotage and love.

You have the talent. You have the purpose. My wife and I are GriefShare facilitators. At our church, in our Hill Country community, we hold a once a week, 13-week program (Spring and Fall) for dear people of adult ages.

On your birthday today, I’m wishing you strength…healing reflection…and some positive vibes if you are able.

There is a kind of happiness that can occur after such loss. Usually it comes in the form of gratitude and just survival of sorts.

My wife (of seven years) and I like to think we are honoring our loved ones memories by doing something positive for others and in our society. Often, I hear my mother, father, grandparents, friends’ long gone voices. I remember their laughter, love and encouragement. It gives me impetus and drive. It’s not always easy. But I do it anyway. One small step at a time with a smile on my face and kindness.

I’m so very sorry. But I’m honored to have known and experienced some precious times with him, Raul and so many others at Fair Oaks Ranch Country Club. God Bless.
