NFL Players Who Speak Up for Their Christian Faith

There continues to be an emphasis of mainstream media reports supporting controversial social engineering causes such as Gay Pride events at baseball stadiums or not standing up during the National Anthem.

While concurrently, there is much media emphasis to stand against professional sports players who support American patriotism and their Christian faith. Here are three such professional football players:

Patrick Mahomes

Few players carry higher expectations than Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a Super Bowl MVP who became a Christian in middle school and has kept that foundation through every spotlight since. “Faith is huge for me,” he has said.

In a Fellowship of Christian Athletes video, he describes a pregame ritual: “Before every game, I walk the field and I do a prayer at the goalpost. I just thank God for those opportunities, and I thank God for letting me be on a stage where I can glorify Him.”

That posture has not changed through fatherhood, championships, or the kind of season-ending injury that tests anyone’s perspective. Mahomes still frames the game as a place to honor God rather than himself.

A few lesser-known facts about Patrick Mahomes:

• His favorite Bible verse is Acts 20:24, which he says keeps him focused on purpose rather than fame.

• His father, Pat Mahomes Sr., pitched in Major League Baseball, and Patrick has said his dad taught him to pray before games long before he threw a football.

• He quietly funds church renovations and youth ministries in East Texas, though he rarely talks about it publicly.

Dak Prescott

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has leaned on faith through public triumph and private grief. After a major injury, he thanked supporters for their prayers and said he was “excited for God’s purpose and plan.”

He has described his belief in plain terms: “My faith is doubled down more than ever, and I’m thankful that he’s my Savior and he guides me in life.”

Prescott, who lost his mother to cancer and his brother to suicide, has also become an advocate for mental health. He believes transparency about struggle can help others see God’s strength in weakness.

A few lesser-known facts about Dak Prescott:

• Before games he has worn a bracelet engraved with “Faith, Fight, Finish,” a phrase he created to honor his late mother.

• He launched the Faith Fight Finish Foundation in her memory, focused on cancer research and mental health advocacy.

• Despite being one of the league’s most visible players, he has said he still gets nervous sharing his testimony in church settings.

Christian McCaffrey

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is known for a relentless work ethic, but he says the motivation underneath it is bigger than stats. “It’s playing for more than just football,” he has said. He does not imagine God hovering over the field waiting for him to score. He simply tries to give his best every week, especially when adversity hits.

A few lesser-known facts about Christian McCaffrey:

• He has said worship music is part of his pregame routine.

• His family has deep Christian roots, including a grandfather who was a college coach and opened team meetings with prayer.

• He founded an organization to support veterans and first responders, inspired by John 15:13–“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
