After Kirk Assassination, Texas Universities Cracking Down on Liberal Professors Hate Speeches

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed Sunday that UT Austin professor Art Markman has been dismissed from his administrative role. He was removed as senior vice provost for academic affairs because of “ideological differences.”

Markman has been employed at UT Austin for 27 years as a psychology professor. He has been part of UT Austin’s provost’s office since 2021. He is also the co-host of the Two Guys on Your Head podcast which airs on KUT News.

Gov. Abbott indicated “Texas is targeting professors who are more focused on pushing leftist ideologies rather than preparing students to lead our nation.”

Just down the road in San Marcos, Texas State University professor Tom Alter was fired for talking at an online socialist conference.

“After a thorough review of Dr. Alter’s conduct and the information provided during his due process hearing, President Damphousse has notified Dr. Alter that his employment at Texas State University is terminated, effective immediately.”

Texas State sent the statement to news organizations, including Clever Journeys. “There will be no further comment on this matter.”

In a statement at the time of the initial firing, Texas State President Kelly Damphousse said Alter’s “controversial statements” amounted to “serious professional and personal misconduct.”

Texas A&M professor Melissa McCoul’s employment was also terminated earlier this year after a video of her discussing gender identities with a student went viral.

Glenn Hegar, the chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, ordered an audit of courses at all 12 schools in the system.

“It is unacceptable for A&M System faculty to push a personal political agenda,” Hegar released in a statement. “We have been tasked with training the next generation of teachers and childcare professionals. That responsibility should prioritize protecting children not engaging in indoctrination.”

Since the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during an appearance at a Utah university campus, many far-left propagandists have exposed their dangerous beliefs on social and news media.

Universities were asked by the White House to sign a compact. This compact was offered in exchange for an advantage in accessing federal funds. The compact asks universities to revise governance structures to create an environment where there is no violence against conservative ideas, among other requests. UT System officials said they were “enthusiastically” reviewing the compact.

Liberalized students and faculty at UT Austin have expressed concerns over academic freedom after the UT system announced an audit on courses related to gender studies.
