Attorney General Ken Paxton sued a New York doctor for unlawfully providing abortion-inducing drugs to Texas residents in direct violation of state law.
Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter, a New York doctor and founder of the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine, unlawfully provided a Collin County resident with abortion-inducing drugs that ended the life of an unborn child and resulted in serious complications for the mother, who then required medical intervention.
Texas laws prohibit a physician or medical supplier from providing any abortion-inducing drugs by courier, delivery, or mail service. Additionally, no physician may treat patients or prescribe Texas residents medicine through telehealth services unless the doctor holds a valid Texas medical license.
According to the complaint, a 20-year-old woman who became pregnant sometime in mid-May was prescribed mifepristone and misoprostol by Carpenter at an undisclosed time. The woman, who is not named in the lawsuit, experienced adverse side effects from the pills and asked her partner to take her to the hospital because of hemorrhage or severe bleeding on July 16th.
At the hospital, the woman’s partner was told that she “‘had been’ nine weeks pregnant before losing the child,” the complaint says, which made him conclude that she “had intentionally withheld information from him regarding her pregnancy, and he further suspected” that the woman “had in fact done something to contribute to the miscarriage or abortion” of the pregnancy. According to the complaint, she had not previously told her partner she was pregnant. Upon returning to their home, the woman’s partner found the two medications Carpenter allegedly prescribed to the woman.
According to Paxton’s office, Dr. Carpenter knowingly treated Texas residents despite not being a licensed Texas physician and not being authorized to practice telemedicine in Texas. Attorney General Paxton requested the court enjoin Dr. Carpenter from violating Texas law and impose civil penalties of no less than $100,000 for each violation of the law.
Carpenter is a past Planned Parenthood volunteer who has reportedly “provided medical and surgical abortions since 1999.”
“In this case, an out-of-state doctor violated the law and caused serious harm to this patient. This doctor prescribed abortion-inducing drugs—unauthorized, over telemedicine—causing her patient to end up in the hospital with serious complications. In Texas, we treasure the health and lives of mothers and babies, and this is why out-of-state doctors may not illegally and dangerously prescribe abortion-inducing drugs to Texas residents,” said Attorney General Paxton.

I have read of groups and doctors that will send these drugs anywhere with no questions asked. What is to stop a boyfriend ordering them to slip to his girlfriend because he doesn’t want to pay child support for 18 years? What is to stop a child rapist or incest perpetrator from using them to cover their crimes? What is to stop their use on the victims of sex trafficking?

Interesting. Nothing can stop that. Paxton is just one who is using courts to counter this activity. It is massive. This NY agency sends out 1000s each month.
