Major League Baseball (MLB) issued a written warning to players for the San Francisco Giants for modifying their LGBTQ+ Pride-themed onfield hats to feature a reference to Scripture.

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the Giants took the field with special uniforms celebrating the team’s Pride Night. The hats featured the team’s emblem in the colors of a Pride flag.
Landen Roupp, who was the starting pitcher for that game, wrote on his hat a reference to Genesis 9:12-16.
More Verses For Baseball Players

The Scripture verses describe the first rainbow, which was given after Noah’s flood as a sign of God’s covenant.
Relief pitchers J.T. Brubaker and Ryan Walker similarly modified their uniforms.
When asked about his decision to modify his cap, Roupp said, “It’s just about God’s covenant and a promise that he makes to us (about) his faithfulness and his mercy.”
“It’s just kind of something I believe in, and I stand firm in that. Thankfully, we live in a country where we have the freedom to believe what we want and express what we want,” Roupp added.
“There’s no hate at all,” he said. “It’s just what I stand for and what I stand (on). I believe in God.”
All three Giants players have now been issued a warning by MLB.
Even More Verses For Other Sports

This warning has prompted backlash across social media, as even actor Rob Schneider has promised to pay the fines of any player who incur by writing the passage on their hats. Schneider was born to a Jewish father and a Catholic Filipino mother.
“I will pay the fines for any MLB Christian player who wears a Bible verse on their uniform. MLB is ANTI-CHRISTIAN,” the actor wrote on X.
