Comparing Tissue vs Toilet Paper: Which Is Cheaper for Allergies?

There are certain times of year when we tend to need to blow our nose more than others.

Here in the Texas Hill Country, this is especially true due to cedar trees exploding with pollen all around us.

Cities with the worst grades are still concentrated in the west, specifically California:

In 2025, Bakersfield, CA ranked worst for both short-term and year-round particle pollution.

Los Angeles, CA continues its 25-of-26-year reign as the smoggiest city in the country, though Angelenos are breathing somewhat easier than they did in 2000—with 77 fewer days of unhealthy ozone each year.

Casper, WY and Urban Honolulu, HI share the top spot for cleanest year-round particle pollution.

Other standout clean-air cities include Bozeman, Montana, Bangor, Maine and Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Keeping allergens outside the home is our best protection, says Dr. David Corry, an immunology, allergy and rheumatology professor at Baylor University in Texas.

When we are working in the yard or garden during high allergy seasons, we are advised to quickly wash clothes we’ve worn outside and take a shower.

We also keep windows in our home and car closed.

Pro tip: If you don’t have time to shower right when you get back in, use a wet washcloth to wipe your face.

This will keep the microscopic pollen particles that have bloomed on as you walked around outside from entering your body. Otherwise, they may eventually find their way into your eyes, nose, or mouth. There, they can trigger allergy symptoms.

If you have carpet in your house, you may want to consider ripping it out, Dr. Clifford Bassett, founder and medical director of Allergy & Asthma Care of New York, tells us. He also recommends using a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) air filter.

So, being a lifelong enthusiast for penny pinching, I naturally want to know which paper alternative is less expensive for blowing my nose (if a handkerchief is not around): toilet paper or paper tissues?

Tissue paper comes in small boxes. You often pay more for it. People use tissue paper for face cleaning. It’s soft and gentle.

Toilet paper is thicker. You use it in the bathroom. Both papers have different uses. This affects their price.

Bulk buying can reduce costs. Stores give discounts for large purchases. You save money this way. Some people prefer quality over cost. They choose more expensive brands. Others look for deals. They want to save.

Toilet paper is usually cheaper than tissue paper. Stores sell them in big packs. This helps you save money.

Toilet paper is specifically designed to dissolve quickly in water, usually within 1 to 4 minutes, making it perfect for flushing. In contrast, facial tissue doesn’t dissolve easily, which makes it unsuitable for plumbing systems.

Facial tissue often boasts a smoother surface and may include added lotions or scents for enhanced comfort, unlike toilet paper, which is generally free from such additives.

  1. Add: 1. ozone generator. 2 air purifier/exchanger, one that exchanges room air 4+ times per hour ( sentry in TX makes a commercial line, one that is economical, about 1100.00) 3. There is a particle purifier system that can be added to your furnace.

  2. A triple bee complex nutritional supplement of royal jelly, bee pollen, and propolis significantly reduced my use of tissues/toilet paper. Thanks for the recommendation for the best paper product to use. đŸ™‚
