U.S.-Mexico Border Tensions Rise With Gunshots, Explosives

Tensions along the U.S.-Mexico border have reportedly escalated as Mexican drug cartels began planting explosive devices this week.

Local news outlets and officials from both countries have reported the explosives activity, particularly around Brownsville, Texas.

In a separate matter, 140 miles away, U.S. Border Patrol agents exchanged gunfire with suspected cartel members at the Texas-Mexico border near Fronton, TX about 2 pm on Monday.

Governor Greg Abbott sent 400 additional troops to the Texas Tactical Border Force, which he first deployed back in May of 2023 to respond to the crisis at the border.

The Brownsville area explosives are believed to be linked to ongoing conflicts between rival cartels or possibly as a response to former President Donald Trump’s executive order designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

These developments follow an incident where hikers in California were reportedly attacked by cartel members, indicating increasing volatility in the region.

Late last week, the Pentagon sent 1,500 members of the military to El Paso, TX and San Diego, CA.

Wired buoys prevent illegal entry into Texas from the Rio Grande River.

“Finally, we have a federal government working to end this crisis. Texas has a partner in the White House we can work with to secure the Texas-Mexico border,” Abbott said in a statement.

In response, the Mexican government has condemned the use of explosives and is collaborating with U.S. authorities to dismantle these criminal organizations.  Local residents in Laredo, Eagle Pass, and McAllen, Texas have expressed fear and frustration, prompting increased patrols by local authorities.

  1. They are doing this in Brownsville. Isn’t that where the Mexican American War started? They don’t want a Woodrow Wilson/Black Jack Pershing. They want a Polk/Zachary Taylor. However, we don’t need to send troops. We have drones and planes. Don’t get into a p contest with this administration. It won’t end well for you.
