We live in close proximity (within 30 minutes) to many of America’s best “dude ranches”. These guest ranches are fun vacation destinations for anyone seeking time to experience a working ranch.

Some have horse, mule or donkey riding lessons and beautiful Texas Hill Country trail rides. Others may feature wagon rides to a nearby river or creek for an authentic cowboy barbeque cookout.
Nearby Bandera is the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” so we’ve seen cattle herds guided through town, experienced gunfight reenactments, and danced to plenty of country music.

Among Dude Ranches near us are:
● Mayan Ranch
● Rancho Cortez
● Flying L
● YO Ranch
● Dixie Dude
● Hill Country Equestrian Lodge
Other such ranches we like in other parts of Texas are:
● Texas Ranch Life, Chappell Hill
● Cibilo Creek Ranch, Marfa
● Beaumont Ranch, Grandview
● Wildcatter Ranch & Resort, Graham
● Prude Ranch, Fort Davis

yummy!! Always have wanted to visit a dude ranch. I did get to ride the horses at Hermann park stables and on Galveston island. That was a few months ago. 😁

The description of dude ranches makes me feel better about the loss of the myth of the Old West in movies.
That pasta salad is almost exactly how I make mine, only I think of it as American Italian. But it would taste just as good as Old West Dude Ranch! It’s the Ranch dressing-aha! Mine is red wine vinegar dressing (homemade) mixed up with sour cream. That probably qualifies as ranch…..All I know is, it’s good.
