When Your Loved One is No Longer Here for Christmas

You pull out the Christmas stockings, and you hold in your hand the one with your loved one’s name on it. The emotions overwhelm you.

You go to sign the Christmas cards when suddenly it hits you – how do I sign this?

You set the table for the holiday dinner, and without even realizing it, you set a place for your loved one who died.

The level of pain will take you by surprise, and you think, ‘How was I not prepared for that?’

How are you prepared for those emotions this year? Maybe you are not prepared. There are some things you can’t prepare for so recognize that fact and tell yourself you will be prepared next year.

How are things going for you this year as you prepare for Christmas celebrations?

Dodie and I are GriefShare leaders at our church in our Texas Hill Country community.

We see first hand, as we lead grieving loved ones through a 13-week (once a week) program, the sorrow, confusion, and torment turn to peace, hopefulness, and strength.

There are 25,000 churches holding these sessions throughout America.

  1. Thanks Jack and Dodie. MoMo and I might look into this. Neither of us went to grief counseling after our sons died, and looking back, it would have helped. As we grow older, the grief is harder to hold at bay. Our boys have been gone 11 and 15 years now, and it hits harder every year. Thanks for the post.
