So, What Does the Bible Say About Abortions?

Abortion was certainly a highly sensitive topic long before January 22, 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court legalized it in the infamous Roe v. Wade decision. Most recently, on June 24, 2022, the Court overturned the ruling which once allowed the federal government to interfere with individual states laws.

While the topic does have varying opinions as to its morality, there is one thing that’s absolute and that’s how abortion stops life.

As a Christian, we know that no matter who we are, there is a reality that we can never deny or run away from and that’s God’s love. The way we talk, act, our personalities, fears, ambitions – All of these were made by God in full details. Not only did He make us with love, but He also accepts and adores every single part of our individuality despite its imperfections.

The World Health Organization reports that 125,000 abortions are conducted daily. These are “induced miscarriages” with consent and acknowledgment of the mother to terminate her child.

In the very first six weeks of pregnancy, a child already develops a breathing, beating, and a fully working heart—a life of its own.

Anything that is able to move, feel, and exist is in fact, “alive”. Therefore, the act of terminating this equates to taking away its life.

Although the Bible doesn’t include the word “abortion,” there are dozens of verses that answer the offense of an opinion that attempts to separate abortion from termination of life.

🔹“You shall not murder.” – Exodus 20:13

🔹“And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” – Mark 7:20-23

🔹“Or why was I not as a hidden stillborn child, as infants who never see the light?” – Job 3:16

🔹“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 18:10

🔹“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 19:14

🔹“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” – Psalm 127:3

🔹“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watching over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?” – Proverbs 24:11-12

🔹”Cursed be anyone who takes a bribe to shed innocent blood.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’” – Deuteronomy 27:25

🔹“Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.” – Exodus 23:7

🔹“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” – Proverbs 6:16-19

🔹“And for your lifeblood, I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man, I will require a reckoning for the life of man. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.” – Genesis 9:5-6

Bible verses about abortion

“Innocent” is a word that is repeated in these verses. Clearly, the unborn child inside a mother’s womb is innocent.

🔹“For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.”– Luke 1:44

🔹“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

🔹“On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother’s womb, you have been my God.” – Psalm 22:10

Aligning With God

As followers of Jesus, our stance is to live a life that is aligned with God’s Word.  Now, more than ever, Dodie and I strive to speak and report truth. The best defense against the greed, fraud and hatefulness of the world and the enemy, is knowing the truth found in the Word of God.

To end life through abortion divides life into the unborn and born, and we learn through Scripture this opposes God’s view of both being equally human.

We both know friends and family members who experienced the tough emotional times after an abortion. It seems it is hard for some to imagine that God can forgive. Shame and regret cloud the view of the path toward God’s amazing grace. The only way to see clearly is forgiveness.

There is forgiveness and restoration.

Through faith in Jesus, God forgives our sins and remembers them no more. Once we receive forgiveness of sins, they are gone.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” —Psalm 103:12

The sacrifice of Jesus makes such marvelous grace possible.

So, What Does the Bible Say About Our Heart?

🔹Things are not as they appear, but God looks at the heart. It’s in the Bible, 1 Samuel 16:7, NKJV. “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

🔹God has made each heart unique. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 33:15, NKJV. “He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.”

🔹Where is God when our hearts are broken? It’s in the Bible, Psalm 34:18, NKJV. “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

🔹Even when we think we can’t go on, God can be our strength. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 73: 26, NKJV. “My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

🔹Is there anybody we can trust? It’s in the Bible, Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

🔹What about when everyone says to just trust my heart? It’s in the Bible, Jeremiah 17:9, NKJV. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?”

🔹The Bible can cut deep to show the truth about our hearts. It’s in the Bible, Hebrews 4:12, NKJV. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

🔹What kind of heart is needed to see God? It’s in the Bible, Matthew 5:8, NKJV. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

🔹How can my heart be purified? By faith in God. It’s in the Bible, Acts 15:9, NKJV. “and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”

🔹How do I find God? It’s in the Bible, Deuteronomy 4:29, NKJV. “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

🔹How can I be saved? It’s in the Bible, Romans 10:9-10, NKJV. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

🔹If we let God show us the sins in our heart, He can lead us into everlasting life. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 139:23-24, NKJV. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

🔹Is there anything I can give to God? God only asks for a broken spirit and sorry heart. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 51:17, NKJV. “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart— these, O God, You will not despise.”

🔹My heart is full of darkness, can God still save me?  It’s in the Bible, 1 John 3:20, NKJV. “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.”

🔹What happens if we do not follow and hear the Holy Spirit? It’s in the Bible, Hebrews 3:7-8, NKJV. “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness’”

🔹What if my heart is too hardened? God promises He can give us a new heart. It’s in the Bible, Ezekiel 36:26, NKJV. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

🔹We need to want God to create a clean heart in us. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 51:10, NKJV. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

🔹What can we put into our hearts to help us day by day? It’s in the Bible, Psalm 119:11, NKJV. “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”

🔹God promises He will write His law on our hearts and minds. It’s in the Bible, Hebrews 10:16-17 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

🔹God wants to give us the deepest desires of our hearts, if we will trust Him. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 37:4-5, NKJV. “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

🔹Christ can fill the thirsty heart and overflow from it. It’s in the Bible, John 7:38, NKJV. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

🔹Guard what you let into your heart, because it is the source of all you do. It’s in the Bible, Proverbs 4:23, NIV. “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

🔹The things people say are good signs of what is in their hearts. It’s in the Bible, Luke 6:45, NKJV. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

So, What Does the Bible Say About Heaven?

It’s in the Bible, John 14:2-3, NIV. “There are many homes up there where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with me where I am.”

Heaven is beyond our comprehension. It’s in the Bible, I Corinthians 2:9, NIV. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

How did Isaiah describe heaven? It’s in the Bible, Isaiah 65:21-23, NIV. “They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; My chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.”

Peace will pervade even the animal kingdom. It’s in the Bible, Isaiah 65:25, NIV. “The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy in all My holy mountain.”

The handicapped will be healed. It’s in the Bible, Isaiah 35:5-6, NIV. “Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb shout for joy.”

God will live with His people and there will be an end to death, crying, and pain. It’s in the Bible, Revelation 21:3-4, NIV. “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’”
