Quick Remedy for Bug Bites

You’re outside walking, camping, having a bonfire, grilling out, shooting off fireworks, or simply hanging out with family and friends…

Only to wake up the next morning covered in bug bites and itching like crazy.

Now, there are plenty of ways to try and protect yourself from bites, such as bug sprays, scented candles, plants, and fans.

But even those aren’t always enough to keep persistent pests at bay.

So today, I want to share a simple method to help relieve the itching, swelling, and discomfort caused by bug bites.

That way, you won’t drive yourself (or those around you) crazy scratching all day and night.

And the best part?

It takes just minutes to help alleviate irritation and is made using ingredients you probably already have in the house…

Because all you need is a little baking soda and water!

Bug Bite Relief

Step 1: Create the Paste — Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with a few drops of water to form a paste. You want it to be easily spreadable but not too runny or too thick.

Step 2: Apply to your bites — Gently apply the paste onto your bug bites. Make sure you cover the entire affected area.

Step 3: Leave it on — Allow the paste to dry on your skin. This usually takes about 10 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse Off — After the paste has dried, gently rinse it off with lukewarm water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.
Bug bites often trigger an immune response in our bodies, leading to inflammation and itching.

But that’s where baking soda comes in.

It works to neutralize the acidic compounds released by insect saliva and venom, which is the root cause of the inflammation and itching in the first place.

And by restoring a more balanced pH level to your skin, baking soda can help alleviate any discomfort.

Plus, baking soda can have a cooling and soothing effect on bug bites, to help keep you from itching and provide some relief.

Just remember…

While this method can be highly effective, it’s important to do a small patch test first, especially if you have sensitive skin. (If you notice any adverse reactions, be sure to stop immediately.)

  1. Oh, yes, baking soda works! My brother and I were hiking the top of my ridge,
when we walked too near a ground nest of yellow jackets. Zap! We were running fast as we could go, but we both got nailed twice before we got away. I always carried baking soda and a bottle of water in my knapsack, so we sat down and pasted ourselves. It worked right away. I remember my brother being quite impressed!
