Vice President JD Vance set it straight when mainstream media claimed $300 billions for Iran’s reconstruction would come from America’s taxpayers:
“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰, 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘶𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘴𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.”
The story, without evidence as reported by big media, spread fast. In unison, they echoed that the United States had agreed to pay Iran $300 billion in reconstruction funding.

Vance corrected the news propaganda fast. Not one dollar comes from the American taxpayer or the U.S. Treasury.
The only money on the table is a conditional offer from the Gulf nations — the Arab states of the Persian Gulf — and it is strictly conditional: Iran gets access only if it ends its nuclear program, surrenders its enriched material stockpile, and submits to an inspections regime rigorous enough to give the American people confidence the mullahs will never build a bomb. No compliance, no money.
Vance was equally direct about where the fake story came from. He particularly flagged Iranian hardliners as the engine behind the inflation:
“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐𝘳𝘢𝘯 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦.”
Tehran’s state media quickly began running victory-lap coverage, framing the $300B as an American payout and a capitulation for Washington. That framing is the propaganda. The transcript tells a different story.
Meanwhile, the deal’s economic effect is already measurable. 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 $𝟏𝟐𝟔 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐨 $𝟖𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 — a $46 collapse in crude as the Strait of Hormuz reopens and shipping lanes clear. Gas prices follow oil. The official signing is Friday; technical talks follow.
