The Good Part of Blogging is Knowing Our Readers

Plus: What Are the Best Times to Release Your Blog on Social Media

One of the biggest pleasures of blogging is building relationships with our readers. Dodie, who spends much of her time copy editing and research, absolutely loves to correspond with our readership–especially fellow bloggers.

It has been a year ago that we posted a review of our favorite local restaurant in the Texas Hill Country, the Hen’s Nest in Bandera (Cowboy Capital of the World).

We are always delighted that so many of our friends and relatives agree. On rare occasions, we run into some of our blog readers there. That occurred this last weekend!

Dodie with her cousin Marla and her husband, Jeff at Hen’s Nest

Dodie’s cousin Marla Whitaker and husband Jeff flew in from Carson City, Nevada to attend her Burbank High School Reunion in San Antonio Saturday night.

They stayed at the famous Gunter Hotel across from where I lived (above the Majestic Theater) for five years a decade ago.

The cousins had not seen each other since about 10 years so it was especially meaningful. Plus, we both met her husband Jeff for the first time.

Restaurant owner, chef and dear friend Sheli Hinton with her wonderful staff were so welcoming, attentive and friendly. (Sheli actually drove us into busy San Antonio for an appointment with my new cardiologist last Monday).

An annual fall biker event at nearby Mansfield Park gave the Whitakers an opportunity to share Texas State Highway 16 from San Antonio to Bandera with hundreds of motorcyclists, on their way to meet us.

The infamous motorcycle route, Twisted Sisters, begins near our home in Medina, about 15 miles away.

After three hours of the cousins visiting, they left to return back to San Antonio, while I paid our tab.

Madison, one of our favorite servers, came over to make an announcement.

A lady sitting with a gentleman at a corner table thought she knew us.

“She knows us?” I asked.

“Yes, she reads your blog, Clever Journeys,” she replied.

Known to us as “DebbieinTexas,” we were delighted to meet them.

Debbie informed us how she has wanted to come (from Boerne, about an hour away) to dine at the Hen’s Nest since she read our review “about a year ago.”

We were thrilled to meet her as we have shared comments back and forth on Clever Journeys for a while.

Due to time constraints from investigation, research, and interviews, I generally try to reply to our readers directly from the article. This is done on WordPress. I focus less on responding through platforms like Gab, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Pinterest, etc. comments.

Remarkably, we do get many comments, but our volume of readership has increased lately (after losing many readers during the terrible online censorships of 2020-2021). It has really taken us that long to recover.

However, we learned much from that censorship and we continue to grow. It has been a good education.

Some of our most verbal readers are fellow blogger friends on WordPress.

Since Charlie Kirk’s assassination, (plus I was hospitalized a few days and recovering from that) we have received good spikes in readership and it has been especially difficult to reciprocate responding with our commenters.

Many are turning away from Big Media propaganda and seeking honest news and perspectives that agree with their beliefs

I would like to thank these bloggers by offering some information on the best times and days we have experienced on various social sites:

• Gab: we have the best responses in the evenings Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Wednesdays are our slowest days. On the east coast (U.S.) I release articles as early as 6 am-8:30 am, noon hour, and 7:30-9:30 pm.

• Instagram: Peak days are Fridays. Early mornings (7-9 AM and possibly earlier) and early afternoons are best for weekdays. Avoid Sundays and times around midnight or 1 AM.

• Facebook: Similar guidance as on Instagram, but try later mornings (9-10 AM) and slow down on the weekends.

• TikTok: Recommendations vary; experiment with mornings early in the week, weekday afternoons, and Sunday evenings.

• X: Due to the nature of this platform, you can post more frequently and don’t have to worry as much about strict windows. Try late morning and early afternoons on weekdays, and avoid late night posts on the weekends.

• LinkedIn: Avoid posting on Sundays, Saturdays, and Mondays. When posting on weekdays, 10 AM through 12 PM is considered peak, with some people recommending early morning as well.

• Pinterest: We especially get readers in our recipes, how-to’s, and helpful hints posts. Try posting on Fridays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in late afternoon and early evening time slots.

• YouTube: Try posting on Friday afternoons or from 9-12 PM on the weekends.

  1. It’s worth visiting Bandera just for that restaurant. Momo and I are going to Marfa for a few days and then on to Colorado Springs for New Year’s. I’m glad you’re mending, and I thoroughly enjoy your writing.
