Texas Governor Greg Abbott made it very clear early on. On August 4, 2025, he issued a public statement. He announced, “Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty to Texans.”

“By fleeing the state, Texas House Democrats are holding hostage critical legislation to aid flood victims and advance property tax relief,” the Governor said. “There are consequences for dereliction of duty.”

“Speaker Dustin Burrows just issued a call of the Texas House and issued warrants to compel members to return to the chamber. To ensure compliance, I ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to locate, arrest, and return to the House chamber any member who has abandoned their duty to Texans.”

“This order will remain in effect until all missing Democrat House members are accounted for and brought to the Texas Capitol.”

For weeks, the sympathetic mainstream media worked overtime to push their liberal propaganda. Behind the scenes, most of Texas was supportive of the gerrymandering efforts. These efforts aimed to replace five Democratic lead districts with GOP representatives.

Is Burrows Going RINO?

Referring to RINO Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows on Wednesday, fellow Republican Rep. Brian Harrison said “You would have to be an idiot to watch what’s happening and not understand that the (Texas House) Speaker is continuing his tradition of servicing the Democrats. The Democrats are his constituency.”

Harrison observed that Burrows had released Democrat representatives during a critical floor session on July 30. This allowed them to meet with U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Harrison revealed that it was necessary for Burrows to rely on Democratic support to be elected Speaker.

“He assisted the Democrats with the quorum break,” Harrison added.

Harrison basically articulated what many savvy citizens have known for awhile.

Burrows is cutting deals with Democrats. He is rewarding them with priority legislation. They returned from an intentional quorum break that stalled the special legislative session.

Harrison claimed Burrows had continued his “tradition of servicing the Democrats.” He cited the advancement of House Bill 10, which was sponsored by Democratic Rep. Senfronia Thompson.

The bill was introduced on August 15. It was referred to committee on August 18. It would create an affirmative defense for individuals facing prosecution charges under certain circumstances.

“The quorum break happened with the full assistance of Speaker Burrows,” Harrison said

Wade Miller, executive director of Citizens for Renewing America and former chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Austin, called on Burrows to sign arrest warrants. He urged this action a day before Burrows actually did it.

Miller posted on social media, “Anything shy of arrest warrants TODAY … is a sign of complicity in the act of denying quorum by Democrats.”

Harrison noted evidence that Democratic influence was guiding the Speaker’s decisions. He referenced Hugh Brady, the Texas House’s parliamentary counsel. Brady previously worked in the Obama White House.

“The top official advising the so-called Republican Speaker in the Texas House is a former Obama White House lawyer,” Harrison said.

Dems Flew Away

More than 50 House Democrats broke the quorum earlier this month. This action originally blocked Republicans from advancing a redistricting plan. The plan, finally passed and added five new GOP-leaning districts in Texas. Many Republicans, seeing through the bad politics, including Rep. Briscoe Cain, had urged the party to seize national redistricting opportunities. For awhile Harrison argued Burrows had surrendered on the issue.

“The maps only have five seats. Why the hell don’t they have at least seven or eight? This is total capitulation,” Harrison said. “They won. We lost. It’s that simple.”

Harrison further dismissed Republican leadership’s claims of action on property tax relief. He called Senate Bill 10 a “sham.” He asserted that it would not reduce taxes.

“Texans are being hosed by their elected leaders. They’re being lied to. They’re being deceived,” Harrison said.

The first special session ended on August 19. Governor Greg Abbott called for even another special legislative session. This session finally achieved the goal of replacing five Democrat seats. The seats were filled with Republicans in time for the midterm elections.

Obama Chimes In

Former president Barack Obama, who has been taking heat from the released evidence sent by the DOJ/FBI to the Senate, chimed in.

“Over the long term, we shouldn’t have political gerrymandering in America, just a fair fight between Republicans and Democrats based on who’s got better ideas,” Obama wrote.

“But since Texas is taking direction from a partisan White House and gerrymandering in the middle of a decade to try and maintain the House despite their unpopular policies, I have tremendous respect for how Governor Newsom has approached this,” he continued. “He’s put forward a smart, measured approach in California, designed to address a very particular problem at a very particular moment in time.”
