Encouraging Points to Approach Elderly Living With Dignity & Respect

Still in our sixties, Dodie and I are fortunate enough to live in a community supportive of the aging population.

We love attending Little League, high school sports (football, baseball, and volleyball), school plays, and musical functions.

At our high school auditorium with fellow classmates.

We maintain strong contact with our high school classmates of yesteryear.

The “Best Little Library in Texas” here features guest authors, news makers, historians, revolving programs, and community gatherness.

Besides her editing of Cleverjourneys.com, Dodie actively participates in various church activities, yoga, cooking classes, gardening, and seasonal hummingbird care. With decades of being a Registered Nurse, she continues to watch over our church family and neighbors.

As a church Deacon, I love doing the Lord’s work of visiting our sick, elderly, in need, and other benevolent duties. We disciple within our local area and beyond. I teach Bible Study twice a week, and we both facilitate two 13-week GriefShare programs each Spring and Fall.

Six to ten hours each work day, I am interviewing, investigating, and writing. We stay active and encourage everyone to do the same.

  1. Thanks for the helpful guidelines and suggestions for aiding not only others, but also ourselves for aging gracefully with a positive attitude. I am amazed at the time management skills you both have with your involvement in the community, the church, and society! 🙂

  2. Good, practical, comprehensive and wide-ranging list. People might get old, but they are still individual and the same person they always were. Respect is a big thing.

    After a long period of semi-rest, I have healed up so well that my energy is increasing and muscle strength coming back so much that one of my elderly friends thought I was 50. I would have preferred 40, but the hair is graying. I know a lot of it was prayer and believing; the other part was rest, so my body could rejuvenate, and really good nutrition. That combination has worked wonders, along with what you said about activity: moderate. Like, I used to bring in five logs at a time, and now it’s only three. When I had anemia, it was one at a time. But don’t give up, keep going. And people in your life are essential, that’s another point you gave that really helped.

    I love the photos.

    One of my very elderly clients used to have a magnet on her fridge. “Old. Young. Just words.” She never thought old, and nobody treated her that way.
