Cool Beverages Fast With A Napkin & a Freezer

In order to quickly cool down your beverages, simply wet a napkin before wrapping it around the drink’s container. With the container wrapped in wet paper, set the beverage in the freezer for 15 minutes. The napkin will accelerate the cooling process and lead you to a frosty drink in a fraction of the time.
Unclog Toilet Without a Plunger
A clogged toilet happens when something becomes stuck in the curvy trap (P-Trap) at the base of the toilet bowl. Sometimes you don’t have a plunger or the plunger simply isn’t working. Don’t keep flushing as you will just flood your bathroom.

Use a combination of extremely hot water and dish soap to get rid of the toilet clog quickly and easily. The hot water breaks down the clog while the dish soap lubricates the toilet for easy flushing.
Sink Draining Improperly
A slow or clogged bathroom sink can get you off to a slow morning, but it’s a much easier fix than most people realize.

Most people spend an average of more than $200 to have a sink drain professionally unclogged. Use a needle-nosed plier to unearth some of the clogged materials.
Inventive Use of a Clothing Hanger

Outside of holding your pants up in the closet, pants hangers can work to perform a number of tasks around the kitchen. One is this DIY Recipe Holding rig.
By using your pants hanger, you can prop up a recipe book for easy reading while you work around the kitchen. The hanger will allow you to simply hang the recipe wherever it is that you are working, thus leaving your hands free to focus on the meal.
Bring Old Sneakers Back to Life with Toothpaste
All you need is an old toothbrush and a little toothpaste to get your old sneakers looking like new!

Non-gel white toothpaste works great for cleaning white-soled sneakers (colored toothpaste may stain rather than clean sneakers). Apply toothpaste to an old toothbrush and then work the paste into the dirty spots. Leave the toothpaste on the shoes for about ten minutes, and then wipe it off with a damp towel. Repeat the process if necessary.
Important: The ingredients in toothpaste may vary from brand to brand, so make sure to try this method on a small unnoticeable spot on your sneakers before applying it to the rest of the shoe.
Make Your Home Smell Good

You can create your own homemade air freshener that doesn’t depend on chemicals to create a good smelling home. Combine 10 drops of your favorite essential oils, 2 tablespoons of witch hazel and six tablespoons of water in a spray bottle. Shake and spray — it couldn’t be easier.
Fix Wobbly Furniture with a Penny

Need to shim a wobbly bench or table, but don’t have time to run to the home center for furniture feet? No worries, just reach for your pocket change!
You can use a coin to shim wobbly furniture in a pinch. Use hot glue to attach the coin to the problem area, adding additional coins as needed. Coins work well as a temporary fix because they come in a variety of thicknesses and cost less than a dollar!
How To Protect Door Knobs

When you’re painting, cover your doorknobs and hinges with foil. It’s easier to peel off than tape. Instead of wasting tape on knobs, just wrap them up in foil. Keep the tape for the door frames and baseboards; that’s where you want the neat edges.
You can leave it there until the paint dries and rip it off once you’re finished.
Remove Rust Stains

Rust stains build up over time from the iron in water. Try a simple mixture of borax and lemon to remove rust stains from a bathtub.
Clean Yellow Pillows
This recipe will whiten your yellow and oily pillows up quickly and easily. Here’s what you’ll need: 1 cup powdered laundry detergent, 1 cup powdered dishwasher detergent, 1 cup bleach (or bleach alternative) and 1/2 cup borax.

First, soak your pillow in warm water for 30 minutes before adding the ingredients above, along with more hot water, to create a cleaning solution. Let your pillow soak in that for another 30 minutes. Then wash your pillow like normal in the machine and the stains will be gone.
Applying Caulk
Re-caulking a bathroom yourself can save you a lot of time and money. Here are a couple of tips you’ll want to watch out for.

First and foremost, you want to make sure you properly remove the old caulk. Depending on the type of caulk, the removal process is a little bit different.
Prepping the surface before you caulk is key, including removing any existing mold.
Second, you want to invest in a proper caulk gun as well as caulk itself. The caulk for kitchen and bath is typically labeled for kitchen and bath use only.
Cleaning Mold From Grout

To clean mold from grout, try a baking soda paste made from 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Use a toothbrush to scrub in between the tiles for a stronger effect. You can also try a Magic eraser. After you apply the paste, wait for 1-2 hours before rinsing with water and letting dry.

Great tips! I especially like the suggestion to use needle nose pliers to remove drain clogs. Thanks! 🙂

Great tips. I have to admit, here in New Hampshire, we have never even heard of IBC Root Beer, but we do have glass bottles of drinks; pretty cool. (Oh, please.) As to toilets, having worked in nursing homes and many people’s homes, I now call myself a World Class Plunger, but I like this hot water and soap method, much cleaner, good move! (There I go again, what’s the matter with me this morning?) The unclogging of sinks: I’ve used boiling hot water after pouring in vinegar and baking soda first, and that works. As to the plier method, yes, very economical, effective. I once unclogged a jammed shower drain at ORU, that had been like that for days; it never occurred to me to call Maintenance. Lacking tools, I used my hands. It was the Mother of Clogged Drains. To this day, I cannot speak of it without heaving. Funny, I can type it and be fine; the spoken word must bring it all back! Anyway, that drain never gave anyone a problem again, you can do it yourself. But your idea of needle-nosed pliers is stellar. Wish I’d had one.

Thanks guys! I gotta try that. I’m in Houston, rumor has it that it’s going to get blazingly hot again this year. Seems this has turned into an annual event. Who would ever have thought?

I heard in the Fall that our winter 23-24 was going to be especially cold. What happened? Not here.

Hello! GREAT TIPS!!
I noticed on the rust stains in the bathtub picture that borax and lemon was recommended. Is the nail polish remover in the picture considered borax??? Just add lemon?
