What Did Americans Pay For Their Thanksgiving Meal in 2023?

Predictably, mainstream corporate media echoed that “grocery prices are still high, but they’re not climbing as fast as they had been” across the board in their reports for 2023 Thanksgiving meal prices.

The reality is that The American Farm Bureau Federation estimates the total cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 this year was $61.17, yet the second highest total since the Farm Bureau began tracking prices in 1986.

Of course, media has primarily focused on the average price of a 16-pound turkey. In early November the cost was $27.35, according to the Farm Bureau, with a drop of 5.6% from a year ago.

The highest price for an apples-to-apples comparison for a Thanksgiving dinner during Donald Trump’s presidency was $48.91.

The Biden Administration is waiting on releasing their official announcement of forcing new tariffs on imported steel used in making cans.

“We’ve been pleased that the Department of Commerce has held off on those tariffs for the most part,” says David Chavern, CEO of the Consumer Brands Association. “But there’s going to be a final determination at the beginning of 2024 that we’re watching very closely.”

Biden’s Labor Department claims grocery prices overall have risen 2.1% in the last 12 months, following an increase of 12.4% in 2022.

While the latest White House and Big Media narratives lecture us that inflation has fallen from 9.1% in June 2022 to 3.2% in October 2023, even the Wall Street Journal admits that “disinflation—inflation rising at a slower rate—isn’t the same as deflation, which is falling prices. Thanksgiving dinner prices are rising less fast than they did in the last two years, but they’re still rising.”

Compared to Trump’s last year in office, turkey and poultry have increased right at 30%. Other grocery price increases since then include:

• Potatoes, 12%

• Dinner rolls, 27%

• Butter, 25%

Travel Costs Explode

Travel costs from Trump’s last days to Biden’s results now have increased immensely.

• Regular unleaded gasoline, 71% increase.

No matter how Biden’s team and media spin it, the fact is that in November 2020, AAA showed the national average was $2.113 per gallon.

Last year at this time, while gas averages were in the $4.52-$6.18 range, Biden said, “God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over.”

The Biden Regime has been as dismal with their corrupt energy policy as they have handling their illegal alien invasion.

Among his first actions after stealing the 2020 election was to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and stop oil gas leases on federal property. His administration has promoted foreign oil production to lower oil costs, but discouraged domestic production.

Over a year ago, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm claimed Biden was “obsessed with the fact that gas prices are so high and people are hurting.”

His concern has turned out to be as dismal as Granholm’s leadership.
