Were You Socially Engineered to Smoke?

There is no doubt that propaganda has played a pivotal role in cigarette smoking.

My request is that as you read through how the father of modern day propaganda and advertising was able to “social engineer” society. Use this basis so you will understand how the pandemic (masks, censorship, no schooling, stay home, etc.) news media, wokeism, Big Pharma, and illegal immigration is coming into play as the New World Order and World Economic Forum attempt their takeover.

Edward Bernays’ public relations efforts for the tobacco companies in the early 20th century helped popularize smoking in the United States, particularly among women.

Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud, pioneered the PR industry’s use of psychology and other social sciences to design its public persuasion campaigns.

“If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing about it? The recent practice of propaganda has proved that it is possible, at least up to a certain point and within certain limits.” (Propaganda, 2005 ed., p. 71.)

He called this scientific technique of opinion-molding the “engineering of consent.”

Joe Camel made Me Do It!

Joe Camel

In the 1920s, working for the American Tobacco Company, he sent a group of young models to march in the New York City parade. He then told the press that a group of women’s rights marchers would light “Torches of Freedom”.

On his signal, the models lit Lucky Strike cigarettes in front of the eager photographers.

On April 1, 1929, it was not an April Fool joke when The New York Times printed: “Group of Girls Puff at Cigarettes as a Gesture of ‘Freedom’“. This helped to break the taboo against women smoking in public.

Physicans? Just like vaccinations.

🔹Over 90 years later we know that smokers die 11 years earlier than non-smokers.

🔹Evidence shows that smoking accounts for 32 percent of all cancer deaths and 87 percent of lung cancer deaths.

🔹The risk of developing lung cancer is about 23 times higher in male smokers compared to non-smokers.

🔹Smoking is associated with increased risk of at least 15 types of cancer.

How much has propaganda played in persuading millions to smoke?

The Use of Symbols

By connecting cigarettes, to feminism and the rebellion against a patriarchal society, Edward Barneys gave cigarettes a completely new meaning. The irony that a nicotine addiction and the consume of tobacco was connected to independence wasn’t realized or criticized by many. Why?

Because humans are emotional, not rational beings. Barneys’ realized that early and used this knowledge throughout his career. Another meaning for the symbol of cigarettes in this context was that cigarettes were associated with slimness, and therefore with attractiveness. They were even associated with health!

“Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet!”

Appealing to unconscious desires

The unconscious desires in this context were to fit into the public image of beauty (being slim) and the desire to be free and independent.

What are the social engineering messages television commericials, movies and news reports telling you today?

.

Bernays included in his era, the desire for women to smokec in the phrase “Torches of freedom”.

Some women might never thought about the feminist movement or about smoking cigarettes but Bernays offered them the opportunity to do both.

Normalizing behavior

By arranging leaders, in this case fashionable, thin women, that promote cigarettes as “torches of freedom”, Bernays activated the herd instinct in his audience. The result was that women started to smoke because certain individuals, unconsciously considered as beautiful and independent leaders did.

Women smoking in public was not a taboo anymore but a normal behavior. A behavior which presented independence and vogue.

Getting into the public’s mental space

When Barneys arranged photographers and reporters he sparked conflict and debate within the American society about the topic of smoking women in public.

By framing the event as a “gesture of freedom”, the New York Times contributed to this debate, supporting the intentions of Barneys. Discussions and further feminist movements developed, that stuck in people’s head.

Just by a simple action, women that walk down fifth avenue while smoking cigarettes, and the following news coverage, as well as discussion of the emancipation of women, turned almost fifty percent of the American population into loyal tobacco consumers.

  1. One of the largest smoking study ever 300000 plus participants. If you smoke a pipe or cigar moderately you will live .6 of a year longer than someone that’s never smoked

Obviously cigars and pipes are typically not inhaled And there’s typically in most of the tobacco’s no additives

I suspect that has to do with relaxing As you have nothing else to do but relax for an hour at a time

  2. Trivia on topic

There are many nicotine receptors in the brain

Nicotine is part of the vitamin B family

If you were a smoker during covid. You were substantially less susceptible to becoming seriously ill or long covid. The nicotine would block covid from attaching to the nicotine receptors

I would like to know what happens to nicotine and the other metabolites during the fermentation of a cigar leaf. My understanding some of these cigar leafs can ferment for many many years and I don’t think cigarette tobacco is treated the same

  3. Other research topics related to tobacco that I find interesting. Share your knowledge

Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae), predominantly in tobacco, and in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant (aubergine), and green pepper.

What other viruses attach to the nicotine receptors?

    Tobacco as medicine?

Tobacco or nicotine used in agriculture etc..

  4. Really revealing article. Remember candy cigarettes? I used to buy those and put sunglasses on and think I was elegant. What did I know; I was eight, but later, when they showed the lung cancer movie at school, I woke up. Never smoked, begged my Mom to stop and she finally did. But 50% of the population is huge. Tactics still work even while people drop dead; we love illusion, don’t we? That ad of the slim, beautiful woman smoking while all the dark- clad ladies admired her, even looks real. I have to tell you, though, I only had eyes for the dog! He looked exactly like Ready and Abel on a good hair day, without the mud.

  5. Insightful. I think one of the things that helped me during the pandemic was my educational background in communications. I knew we were in a mass propaganda campaign. I just did not understand why our government, the media, and the medical establishment were duping the public. Now I have a better understanding and I believe it is an insidious interplay of incompetence, illicit power, malfeasance and money. Our educational system, led by liberal know nothings, is also a contributor to the ignorance of people who blindly follow like sheep to the slaughter.

  6. ● I never smoked cigarettes, I tried one cigarette, coughed, didn’t understand why someone would do that to themselves, and never tried another.
    ● Cigars and Pipes, I tried those, but the Nicotine apparently made my heart rhythm irregular, so I stopped.
    ● Marijuana, when I was pressured to smoke, I refused. When with friends, but not pressured, I began. Apparently we once had some strong or treated stuff. My legs went numb from the Pot, and walking up hill, I kept stumbling. I couldn’t tell when my foot was hitting the ground. I got home, got Milk and Cookies, and was watching Gomer Pyle. Without finishing my Milk and Cookies, I went to the kitchen to get Milk and Cookies. My mother (my father worked nights), easily caught on that I didn’t need 2 glasses of milk and 2 plates of cookies, and asked me what was wrong. I told her what happened. She never said anything, my father never said anything when he got home, and I never smoked it again, not from fear of them, but from fear of the reaction I had. Watching Gomer Pyle saying “Surprise, Surprise, Surprise” while I was high was enough to cause me to abstain. My Pot Smoking Career was well under 10 times over a few months.
    ● The representation of Blacks, Whites, and Homosexuals in commercials ebbs and flows, black men and white women, my wife said that now, some white men with black women, but mostly black couples, and she said that homosexual is the big ad gimmick.
    ● The Environment. Sheesh. Lies, and no one checks them. I heard once it was the warmest day in 1000 years. Really?

How old are thermometers? (they were invented in the late 1500s), so 1022 was 1000 years ago, how did they measure and record temperature? They didn’t. One year, with the announcement of record breaking temperatures, I started to check, and in almost all instances, there were higher temperatures recorded in the 1930s. That’s a little short of 1000 years ago.
    ● Homosexuality. Christian views aside, I have met a lifelong female homosexual couple. They are older than me, they’ve been together for years. It’s a good relationship not based on sex.

The media seems to be willing to promote sex change and hormonal therapy for children, and I am aghast. They promote homosexuality without realizing the harm that some facets of it are committing against children.

We’re seeing Paradigm Shifts based on lies and misrepresentations.

One of the videos I see on YouTube, very short sections of video, less than a minute long, all end with Biden saying to the media that “My Butt’s Been Wiped”. It was fact checked by various Liberal Sites, they claim he didn’t say “My Butt’s Been Wiped”, but most profess not to know what he actually said.

You can’t know what he didn’t say if you don’t know what he did say. Of course, my wife and I don’t think he meant it as a dementia driven expression of hygiene, we think he was speaking like a Mill Worker being figurative of some scolding or loss.
