Should NFL, NBA, MLB Stay Out of Politics and Stick With Sports?

Professional baseball and basketball television ratings immediately plummeted after their first games back from the Coronavirus hiatus featured kneeling and liberal leftist social messaging.

Americans quickly tuned out for the  following games.

Apparently the MLB and NBA haven’t learned the lessons of two years ago when the NFL suffered terrible rating drops from the disrespectful anthem kneelers.

Despite the propaganda Mainstream Media, socialist engineers, and now sports owners are pushing, Americans have not changed their minds.

“TV ratings for the National Basketball Association have collapsed this year, a season that kicked off with the league bowing to communist China,” Breitbart reported in December 2019.

Comparing the first night return ratings to the following games has been a nightmare for both MLB and NBA.

Pundits and team defenders tried to blame it on COVID, but that excuse blew up in their face when 5.8 million  tuned in to watch Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson and Peyton Manning hit golf shots this summer.

Prior to the Coronavirus shutdown, the NBA league’s TV ratings on ESPN and TNN were down 19% and 22% respectively. These sports leagues and broadcasting stations were expecting huge audiences from a nation that’s been deprived of sports and entertainment for months. But they’ve made it worse.

Millions of fans consider the act of kneeling during the national anthem disrespectful to the military that protects the country. A huge chunk of the fans are beginning to boycott the sports leagues for promoting their ‘political’ agendas, as opposed to just sticking to sports.

This viewership counts are so low, lackluster advertising revenues can’t make up for the loss of stadium tickets, concessions and souvenirs they’re experiencing.

“The American people just don’t want to be preached to by a Marxist, pro-communist organization while they are trying to get enthused and excited about the return of major league professional sports,” Rush Limbaugh said August 3. “It’s not complicated to understand at all.”

In San Antonio, one Spurs insider told me the franchise is having secret concerns of Coach Greg “Popovich spouting off about politics every time we turn around.”

Regular season attendance for Spurs home games in the 2006-2007 season was 764,823. In 2018-2019 it had dropped to 750,616. According to ESPN, last year the Spurs ranked #12 in attendance with 550,515. Their local television audience dropped 34% just last year.

“COVID hadn’t even hit us yet so now we’re just not sure the effect his rants may have,” she said.

Tanking local ratings were also down 41% in New York, 36% in Chicago and 25% in Boston.

On Monday some players on the NHL kneeled during the performance of the United States and Canadian national anthems.
