You may be blessed if you live in these beautiful South Central states. You might have seen some of these special symbols in nature near your home.

Do you recognize any?

My backyard is a nature reserve. While working in my backyard, I just happened to see a praying mantis stalking his prey. A praying mantis is an ambush predator looking like a stick or leaf to an unsuspecting moth. By the time I grabbed my camera, he had devoured the bug. What I got was a photo of a satisfied creature after a delicious meal of fly. The praying mantis does look like what I call, “backyard aliens.”

  1. Since my grandmother and all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins were in Oklahoma, I early-on learned that the state bird of that state is the scissortail flycatcher. It is amazing to see those things use their tails to perform acrobatics to catch Junebugs, flies, and mosquitoes at dusk and dawn.
