‘I Hear You Knockin’ Rocker Fighting for Life at 81

Dave Edmunds, 81, the singer-guitarist best known for the 1970 smash hit “I Hear You Knockin,’” suffered a “major cardiac arrest” on Tuesday according to a post his wife shared on Facebook.

“Dave Edmunds. My beloved husband of 40 years has had a major cardiac arrest,” wrote Cici on Facebook early Tuesday, July 29.

She indicated Edmunds “died in my arms while I desperately tried to keep him alive while trying to clear his airways from all of the fluids that come out of a human beings body when we pass away.”

Cici later indicated that a nurse was able to perform CPR and doctors “intubated Dave after by a miracle resurrecting him for a moment.”

“He very clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss etc. And the risk of yet another major cardiac arrest is high,” she added.

Last month, Cici Edmunds posted on Facebook to mention she was experiencing her own health challenges. She had been hospitalized for “pancreatic attacks.”

Aside from his own success as a solo artist and with Rockpile, Edmunds is known for being the first to record and release the Elvis Costello song “Girls Talk” and producing and collaborating with several artists including Paul McCartney, the Stray Cats, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Status Quo.

I Hear You Knocking

You went away and left me long time ago
And now you’re knockin’ on my door

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I begged you not to go but you said goodbye
And now you’re tellin’ me all your lies

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been
Ah, yes

Ooh-hoo, ooh
Child, rave it up
Fats Domino
Smiley Lewis
Chuck Berry
Huey Smith, oh
Let’s do it

You better get back to your used-to-be
‘Cause your kind of love ain’t good for me

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been

I told you way back in ’52
That I would never go with you

I hear you knockin’
But you can’t come in
I hear you knockin’
Go back where you been
Yes

Ooh-hoo, ooh
Yes
That’s a gal of gal
Ah, yes
