Friday morning on Independence Day at about 8 am I took these first pictures of the Medina River just an acre behind our backyard.
Highway 337 (many motorcyclists know it as the first leg of famous ‘Twisted Sisters’ biker trail or the gateway to Lost Maples State Park), was blocked off as the river was flowing over two feet above the bridge.

A mile south, behind our church (First Baptist Church of Medina) this was the sight:

The bridge was impassable there too.

Neighbors, friends and others (on social media) began sending or sharing even more:

30 minutes northeast, Kerrville was experiencing record breaking floods:

8 foot wall of water turned into 30 feet:

Then we learned about numerous casualties and missing people, including girls ages 7 to 17 at Camp Mystic for the week:

We heard of further flooding as far north as San Angelo and Llano:

A bridge in Kerrville we regularly drive over went from this to that:

Local leaders, state emergency management and Governor Greg Abbott’s office vowed to use every resource possible to help those affected by the flooding. President Donald Trump’s cabinet jumped in to expedite operations.

Unable to use boats and floats due to the raging waters, rescuers took to the skies with helicopters.

As of this writing at least two of the girls from Camp were found and rescued from trees.

I just now was getting on Youtube and saw the news; looked the areas mentioned up on the map and it’s YOURS. Horrific; you’d better believe I’m praying, and so, so glad you are safe. Praying for the families and the kids at the camps, such a mess. And such stories of bravery and rescue. Thanks for getting this out.

Weather can sure change quickly and sneak up on you. Are you safe? Have they evacuated the areas downstream? That water has to go somewhere. Will Canyon Dam hold back most of the water in the Guadalupe River?

Dear all.
I’ll pray for you from Switzerland.
By the way, some people speak about cloud seeding. It’s rainmaker Cie Trademark, no?

I and so many are continuing to watch this horror and pray. It’s unspeakable, and I know you and Dodie must be in the thick of it; the grief counseling alone will be so hard. It’s on my mind continually.
