With plenty of media and customer reviews to prove it, the best “hole in the wall” restaurant in Texas is a hidden gem in San Antonio with over 2,000 five-star Yelp reviews.
Gino’s Deli has hundreds of awards to prove it and has been ranked 9th best and one of 100 Best Restaurants in America numerous times.
Most recently, they have been named Best Restaurant in Texas and Best Restaurant in San Antonio, Best Burger Joint in Texas, Best Sandwich, and Best Deli in San Antonio.
The Smoke Stack is one of our favorite menu items . They start by grilling Hickory Smoked Turkey, adding Applewood Smoked Bacon. Then it’s topped with Smoked Italian Provolone Cheese, with loads of smoky flavor that comes from layering the bread with fresh homemade Smoked Chipotle Aioli.
“Then come all the fixins, crisp Lettuce, juicy tomato, tangy pickle, crunchy onion, all served on a toasted gourmet Bun made fresh daily at our partner bakery.”
Another favorite is their Steak Italian Sandwich. They term it the “Gigantic Garganguasity” that is considered the big Kahuna at Gino’s Deli.
It is a super blend of 1/4 Lb. Ribeye Steak, Ham, Pepperoni, Sautéed Onions, Sautéed bell peppers with their own special blend of spices, covered with the dynamic duo of cheeses, a slice of American and two thick slices of Smoked Italian Provolone Cheese.
They add crisp lettuce and juicy tomato to go along with mayonnaise, all served on a 9 Inch Italian Hoagie Roll made fresh daily from their partner bakery.

Genos Deli sandwiches look absolutely awesome. The intermingling of all those mouthwatering flavors on that bakery bread must give patrons an actual food high. If they shared their sandwiches with their dogs, they’d likely become overly euphoric and drop dead. 🙂

Oh yum, yum, yum. But, I would take the fixin’s off and share with my dogs, if they were still here. They ate homemade people food, and this would have sent them into euphoria for sure. Big smiles! They used to get SO excited when I would bring them New York style cheese pizza.
This is making me want to visit Texas. You just keep showing us these pictures!
