Maine’s Leftist Governor Continues Showdown With Trump Over Transgenders in Sports

Dear Maine citizens, please explain this to the rest of us.

Your Democrat Governor  Janet Mills’ brother pocketed $22 million into his shell company that was meant for towns in Maine.

Mills

“A year before she took office, her brother Peter Mills, received $22 million through a shell company called Western Mountains and Rivers Corporation (WM&RC established in 2017). This company also received 670 acres of land on the Dead River, all courtesy of a company called Central Maine Power (CMP).

WM&R hired an attorney to testify before the Public Utilities Commission and other regulatory bodies debating the construction of a power line from Canada to Maine. The electric utility paid for the attorney. In all, CMP gave Western Mountains $250,000 and promised to provide an equal amount over the next five years.

WM&R was created by Larry Warren of New Portland, the founder of Maine Huts & Trails and the Longfellow Mountains Heritage Trails, a proposed walking path between Kingfield and Coburn Gore. These nonprofit projects stand to benefit from CMP’s project through land transfers and easements.

WM&R’s board of directors included the governor’s brother Peter Mills, who was then the Maine Turnpike Authority’s executive director. Mills used to be a state senator representing the area the power line will cross.

“If a new power line is built,” Mills wrote way back in 2008 for a newspaper op-ed, “Maine’s power prices may simply float to match those of Boston. Even though the cost of the line will be spread among all New England users, Maine may get little credit for flooding the Northeast with fresh sources of green power.”

Other WM&R board members included Heather Johnson, Gov. Mills’ economic and community development commissioner, and several owners of white-water rafting companies. But Warren was the force behind the nonprofit, and he seemed to be unconcerned that being funded by CMP left WM&R with zero credibility.

When Janet Mills assumed office a year later, she immediately approved CMP to clear cut in 145 mile corridor through Western Maine without the endorsement of any of the localities affected, who were all in major disagreement with the decision.

And that $22 million that was supposed to be spent on the towns appears to have been pocketed by this shell company run by Peter Mills, rather than being spent on the people it was actually supposed to.”

In February 2025, President Donald Trump signed the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order.

Later, Trump and Governor Mills had a showdown over transgender women in sports, with Trump telling her at the White House that she must follow his executive order, or “you’re not going to get any federal funding,” to which she replied, “We’ll see you in court.”

“I’m complying with state and federal laws,” Mills said, before Trump said, “Well, we are the federal law,” and “you better do it, you better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t.”

Trump’s assistant secretary for civil rights Craig Trainor stated afterward that “Maine would have you believe that it has no choice in how it treats women and girls in athletics – that is, that it must follow its state laws and allow male athletes to compete against women and girls. Let me be clear: If Maine wants to continue to receive federal funds from the Education Department, it has to follow Title IX. If it wants to forgo federal funds and continue to trample the rights of its young female athletes, that, too, is its choice. OCR will do everything in its power to ensure taxpayers are not funding blatant civil rights violators.”

The University of Maine agreed to comply with the Trump administration order last week, saying it would cooperate with federal, state, and NCAA policies on the matter.

  1. At this point, Maine is a trainwreck that needs a complete resurrection. It has to be that it was flooded with out of State leftists residents, voter fraud, the works, and that the people just didn’t wake up in time. It’s going to need a lot of waking up. Losing funding would be a good start.
