House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) says FBI Director Christopher Wrayโs politicization of the agency has โtarnishedโ its reputation.

โThe FBI today is a fraction of what it once was,” proclaimed Comer. “So, [Kash] Patelโs going to have to come in and flush the commode and try to bring in new people at the top.โ
Wray, during a meeting in front of his FBI staff on Wednesday, indicating he was quitting when Joe Biden leaves office.
โMy goal is to keep the focus onโฏour mission โ the indispensable work youโre doing on behalf of the American people every day,โ he told the FBI employees. โIn my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.โ
But it was Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley who on Monday called on Wray, as well as Deputy Director Paul Abbate, to accept accountability for their failed leadership at the Bureau.

In his letter Grassley detailed how Wray has โfailed in (the) fundamental duties as director.โ These failures include:
- Subjecting President Trump to a continuing double standard, including an invasive and unwarranted FBI raid on Trumpโs Mar-a-Lago residence. By contrast, the FBI under Wrayโs leadership:
- Sat on bribery allegations against then-Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden, and
- Provided an inexplicable and unnecessary briefing to Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), which was leveraged to smear their investigation into the Biden familyโs financial connections as Russian disinformation.
- Refusing to provide information to Congress on sexual misconduct at the FBI, despite public pledges to do so;
- Refusing to provide information to Congress on Afghan evacuee vetting;
- Refusing to provide information to Congress on the FBIโs โRichmond memo,โ which pegged faithful Christians as violent extremists; and
- Neglecting to ensure the protection of whistleblowers and suspending or revoking security clearances in retaliation for reporting waste, fraud or abuse.
โThese failures,โ Grassley wrote, โare serious enough and their pattern widespread enough to have shattered my confidence in your leadership and the confidence and hope many others in Congress placed in you.โ

โYour and Deputy Director Abbateโs failure to take control of the FBI has hindered my work and othersโ work throughout multiple Congresses on matters that needed timely information, and has prevented the truth on some issues from ever reaching the American people. Youโve also shown a continuing double standard and failure to carry through on promises. For the good of the country, itโs time for you and your deputy to move on to the next chapter in your lives,โ Grassley continued.

โIโve spent my career fighting for transparency, and Iโve always called out those in government who have fought against it. For the public record, I must do so once again now. I therefore must express my vote of no confidence in your continued leadership of the FBI. President-elect Trump has already announced his intention to nominate a candidate to replace you, and the Senate will carefully consider that choice. For my part, Iโve also seen enough, and hope your respective successors will learn from these failures,โ Grassley concluded.

And Grassley speaks for all of us. I’ve seen Kash Patel in numerous interviews; he will do a fantastic job of cleaning up that disgusting toilet. He’ll be a world-class plunger, no pipe left behind.
