Texas Removed 1.1 Million People From Voter Rolls

Texas is leading the way and setting the example for election integrity as Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced that 1.1 million people have been removed from the state’s voter rolls.

Abbott provided a chart outlining the various categories that are flagged as removed:

● 457,000+ deceased individuals

● 463,000+ voters on the “suspense list.”

● 134,000+ voters who failed to respond to an address confirmation notice

● 65,000+ failed to respond to a notice of examination

● 19,000+ who requested to cancel their registration

● 6,500+ noncitizens

● +6,000 with felony convictions

Abbott highlighted Senate Bill (SB) 1, signed into law in 2021, adding provisions to prevent fraud by:

● adding criminal statutes

● prohibiting unsolicited mail-in ballot applications

● establishing additional ground rules for early voting and voter registration.

“Election integrity is essential to our democracy,” Abbott said in his press release.

“I have signed the strongest election laws in the nation to protect the right to vote and to crack down on illegal voting. These reforms have led to the removal of over one million ineligible people from our voter rolls in the last three years, including noncitizens, deceased voters, and people who moved to another state.”

Abbott added that the Texas Secretary of State has “an ongoing legal requirement to review the voter rolls, remove ineligible voters, and refer any potential illegal voting to the Attorney General’s Office and local authorities for investigation and prosecution.”

“Illegal voting in Texas will never be tolerated.”

In addition to SB 1, Abbott has signed multiple other bills to crack down on illegal voting:

● House Bill (HB) 1243, increases the penalty for illegal voting to a second-degree felony

● SB 1113, empowers the Secretary of State to withhold funds from counties that fail to remove noncitizens from voter rolls

● HB 574,  which criminalizes knowingly counting invalid votes.

● In 2017, Abbott signed Senate Bill 5, which increased the penalty for election workers who knowingly permit noncitizens and other ineligible persons to vote.

  1. YES! Good job, Texas, cleaning up those Voter Rolls. Now if the rest of U.S. states would follow suit, we may have a touch of integrity return to our elections! ❤️🇺🇸💙
