Elvis and Priscilla Presley Finalized Divorce on this Date in 1973

On October 9, 1973, 47 years ago today, Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s divorce was made official.


The couple filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Santa Monica.

Under the agreed-upon settlement, they would share custody of their daughter Lisa Marie.


Priscilla was to be paid $725,000 in cash, or $4,200 per month for spousal support, plus $4,000 per month for child support. etc.

A property division agreement, dated August 15, 1972, was also entered into between Elvis Aaron Presley and Priscilla Ann Presley.

The agreement provided Priscilla with ownership of a 1971 Mercedes-Benz, a 1969 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1971 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, $100,000 in cash, and half of the proceeds from the sale of three homes in California.

In addition Elvis would pay the taxes on the cash.

After the divorce proceedings, the two came out of the courtroom hand in hand. A Los Angeles Times photographer, George Frye, took photos after being tipped off.

“I didn’t divorce him because I didn’t love him,” Priscilla said in a 2016 interview. “He was the love of my life, but I needed to know this world.”
