Democrats Switching to Republican Across US in Unprecedented Numbers

Since Jan. 3, Republicans have added around 20,000 active voters, according to the Utah Elections Office. During that same time, Democrats have lost around 8,000 active voters and the number of unaffiliated voters has dropped by nearly 12,000.

This looks to be a heavy trend nationally. It appears the ONLY way Democrats could come close to winning many of their 2022 races is by considerable cheating.

John Lee, the North Las Vegas Democrat mayor announced last week that he’s running for re-election as a Republican because the Democrats have an “anti-American” agenda.

“The party moved past me. In fact, Democrats are now leaving that party in droves because of the socialist agenda that has taken place in the Democratic Party,” Lee announced. “They’re totally anti-American. There was nowhere for people who thought and felt like I did about the virtues and values and morals of being a good American. It was time to leave. They have destroyed the Democratic Party now.”

“They had an election recently for leadership, and four of the five people were card-carrying members of the Socialist Party. It’s not the party that I grew up with 25 years ago in this environment, and it’s not the party I can stand with anymore,” he continued.

“The working class, or working men and women of this country, and also the small business owners are not a part of the conversation anymore. It all has to do with the elitists and it has to do with the socialists. That is not the agenda that I have in mind for this country of the future,” he said.

“When you’re a pro-life Democrat, a pro-gun Democrat, and you’re a very conservative person, that’s not really well known in the Democratic Party anymore,” he added. “And so for me to hang on as long as I did, hoping the party would change, it didn’t, it got worse.”

This is bad news to Democrats because in December 2021, data from Nevada’s secretary of state indicated 2.5 times more voters switched from Democrat to Republican than the reverse that month.

From January 1, 2020 through May of that year, Nevada saw over 6,500 former Democrats switch to Republican.

🔹Since January 2022, over 21,000 Massachusetts Democrats switched as registered new Republicans.

🔹Harriet Holman, a popular Black Democratic council member in Dorchester County, South Carolina, announced recently they will be running for reelection as a Republican.

🔹In just one county alone, local news are reporting over “1,000 blue-collar Democrats in Ohio’s Mahoning County have switched to being Republicans” since the first of the year.

🔹In March 2022, Nebraska’s Democratic party lost 1,787 voters and the Republican party gained 1,985 voters.

As of May 10, 6,440 more Nebraskans were registered as Republicans in May than there was in April. The Democrats saw a loss of 3,841 in one month.

Hispanics Trending to GOP

🔹In December, a Wall Street Journal poll shocked the Democrats when learning that Hispanic voters are now split between Republicans and Democrats on the generic ballot at 37%. A further 22% responded that they were undecided.

🔹Texas Democrats were stunned last year with Republican gains in Hispanic-heavy communities throughout the state. In the border city of McAllen, the GOP celebrated Javier Villalobos’ mayoral victory in a region that has historically voted for Democrats.

🔹In November 2021, Texas House of Representatives member Henry Grover switched from Democrat to Republican.

🔹Also, in November 2021, Texas House of Representatives member Ryan Guillen switched from Democrat to Republican.

“Friends, something is happening in South Texas, and many of us are waking up to the fact that the values of those in Washington, D.C., are not our values, not the values of most Texans,” Guillen said.

“During the 2020 election, we saw certain districts in South Texas as having a promising future for the GOP as we began to see a lot of Mexican-Americans, as well as in other states with Cuban-Americans and Colombian-Americans,” Macarena Martinez, the Republican National Committee’s Texas communications director, said.

“But here in Texas, we saw a huge shift to the GOP during President Trump’s second presidential election, given his stance on immigration, given his stance on the border wall, backing the blue, supporting law and order,” she continued, also noting the number of people employed by oil and gas companies in South Texas turned away from Biden’s energy policies.

Historical Trend

🔹Oct. 2020, Louisiana Lt. Governor Angie Angelle switched from Democrat to Republican.

🔹In Jan. 2020, New Jersey representative Jeff Van Drew switched from Democrat to Republican.

🔹March 2018, Steve Lebsock of Colorado House of Representatives switched from Democrat to Republican.

🔹In 2017, Governor of West Virginia Jim Justice switched from Democrat to Republican. He had previously been a Republican prior to 2015.

🔹January 2017, West Virginia House of Delegates Rupie Phillips moved from Democrat to Republican.

🔹By May 2016, the election year of Donald J. Trump versus Hillary Clinton, over 57,000 Democrats in Pennsylvania moved to the Republican party. Over 25,000 Independents registered as Republicans.

Since 1994, there has been 76 state lawmakers who switched from Democrat to Republican. State senators: 22, State representatives: 54.

This compares to only 21 state lawmakers who switched to Democrat. State senators: 6, State representatives: 15.

As of May 2022, Mississippi has had an increase of 15 Republicans; Georgia has had an increase of 13 Republicans. Louisiana has had an increase of 12 Republicans; Alabama GOP has 6; M has 5; Texas has 5; West Virginia has 5, Kentucky has 4; Arkansas has 3; Kansas 2, New Hampshire 2, Rhode Island 2; South Dakota 2; and Arizona, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina,Tennessee, and Wyoming have 1 additional Republican each.

Is This America’s Sure Legal Way To Stop The Washington DC Madness?

What do Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Commentators Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro, Lt. Col. Allen West, Dr. James Dobson, Florida Senator Mark Rubio, Texas Congressman Chip Roy, Ben Carson, Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert Governor and Governor Mike Huckabee have in common?

They all support a Convention of the States to fix an out of touch and overspending Washington DC.

America needs 34 states for a Convention of States Resolution, to call for a limiting of federal power, spending, and terms of office.

Currently, 16 states have now joined the call: Georgia, Alaska, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona, North Dakota, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Utah, Mississippi, and Wisconsin.

“Thank goodness our Constitution has given the states and the people a framework to step in and save the Republic when Congress will not. Today we sent a message that Wisconsin stands ready to rein in federal overreach,” said Wisconsin State Senator Kathy Bernier following the Badger State joining the first 15.

“Times like these are precisely why the Founders created the mechanisms in Article V,” agreed Wisconsin State Representative Dan Knodl. “Federal overreach has thrown our country into chaos, and it’s time for the states to exercise their authority as granted to them in the constitution to restore order, states’ rights, and limited, constitutional government. I’m incredibly proud that our state has officially thrown its support behind this movement.”

Senators in Nebraska are expected to take their final vote on the COS Resolution in a matter of days.

Once 34 states apply for a convention to propose amendments on the same issue (i.e., limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government), Article V requires Congress to name the place and the time for the convention. If it fails to exercise this power reasonably, either the courts or the states themselves can override Congressional inaction.

The coalition of Americans who have joined the Convention of States Action group indicate they have “built robust teams in all 50 states, some of which are tens of thousands of patriots strong.”

“Washington, D.C., is broken. The federal government is spending this country into the ground, seizing power from the states and taking liberty from the people,” the group emphasizes. “It’s time American citizens took a stand and made a legitimate effort to curb the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. The Founders gave us a tool to fix Washington, D.C. We must use it before it is too late.”

Many of their members and teams have secured a local or state elected position in various states. Some of the most noteworthy achievements include:

In Virginia, COS District Captain Karen Greenhalgh won a race against an incumbent candidate for a seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates.

In New Jersey, Convention of States Petition signer Edward Durr shocked the nation in 2021 when he ousted the longtime president of the New Jersey state senate, Steve Sweeney. .

In Texas, State Director Shelby Williams won a seat on the Plano City Council in 2019. Initially faced with two opponents, Shelby gained enough grassroots support to prevent the well-known incumbent from garnering the 50% of votes required to win outright in the May 4th election, thereby triggering a run-off election. Though ending 2.5 points behind on May 4th, in the final June 8th vote, Shelby pulled ahead to a 53-47% victory.

In Ohio, Mike Carey won a seat in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District on Nov 4, 2021, replacing resigned Rep. Steve Stivers. Mike signed the COS petition at the Madison County, Ohio county fair in July 2021.

In Wisconsin, former COS State Director Tom Peters was elected to the County Board in Brown County.

In Minnesota, John Heinrich won his election thanks in large part to Convention of States volunteers. In 2018, Heinrich faced four challengers in the primary, two of whom were against a Convention of States and two of whom were noncommittal.

More States Supporting Texas and Arizona With Biden’s Border Crisis

Over 3,000 state troopers from other states are being sent to the southern borders of Texas and Arizona to help with the Biden Immigration Crisis.

🔹Harvard-Harris poll indicates that 64% of registered voters think Pres. Biden should “issue new, stricter policies to reduce the flow of people across the border.”

🔹63% of Texas voters believe Kamala Harris’s appearance in El Paso recently had little purpose other than another worthless photo opportunity.

🔹The latest Fox News poll found that 54% of Americans disapprove of Pres. Biden’s handling of the border crisis.

Idaho

“The State of Idaho proudly stands with our fellow Americans along the United States-Mexico border and will do what we can to protect the American people – Idahoans – against the damaging consequences of the inaction of the Biden-Harris Administration,” Gov. Brad Little said in a statement.

“Smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons, property destruction, and the daily influx of increasing numbers of illegal immigrants into our country are problems that are getting worse by the day,” he noted.

“It is time for our nation’s Governors to do what the federal government won’t – secure the border. Idaho is evaluating our resources, and I will have more to share with Idahoans about our support of this important call to protect our country.”

South Dakota

Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem tweeted on June 28, “Tomorrow morning I’m officially announcing up to 50 National Guard troops to Texas to help secure our border.”

Noem

“The Biden Administration has failed to keep America safe. We shouldn’t be making our own communities vulnerable by sending police to fix Biden’s border crisis.”

Iowa

“My first responsibility is to the health and safety of Iowans and the humanitarian crisis at our nation’s southern border is affecting all 50 states,” Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a statement.

“The rise in drugs, human trafficking, and violent crime has become unsustainable,” she said. “Iowa has no choice but to act, and it’s why I am honoring Texas’ Emergency Management Assistance Compact following assurances from the Iowa Department of Public Safety that it will not compromise our ability to provide all necessary public safety services to Iowans.”

Reynolds noted the deciding point for her action came through skyrocketing amounts of illegal drugs coming into the state.

Florida

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was the first state leader to response to the request for help from Texas and Arizona saying said no state is immune from the border crisis.

DeSantis

“America’s border security crisis impacts every state and every American,” DeSantis said in a statement.

“The Biden Administration ended policies implemented by President Trump that were curbing illegal immigration, securing our border, and keeping Americans safe,” he stated.

“Governors Abbott and Ducey recently sent out a call for help to every state in the nation, needing additional law enforcement manpower and other resources to aid with border security. I’m proud to announce today that the state of Florida is answering the call. Florida has your back.”

Nebraska

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts soon followed saying his state would be sending about 25 Nebraska state troopers to Texas.

“Nebraska is stepping up to help Texas respond to the ongoing crisis on their border with Mexico,” he said in a statement.

“The disastrous policies of the Biden-Harris Administration created an immigration crisis on the border,” he noted. “While the federal government has fallen short in its response, Nebraska is happy to step up to provide assistance to Texas as they work to protect their communities and keep people safe.”

Georgia

Georgia decided to send state troops too.

South Carolina

South Carolina troops are on the way.

Oklahoma

Good neighboring state Oklahoma is sending troops.

Kentucky

Kentucky will also be joining other states lending support to protect the nation’s southern border, but their Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear put a political spin on his announcement Thursday.

Saying his commonwealth will deploy 220 National Guard members to the nation’s southern border–but not until October–he added, “This is a direct request from the federal government, from the Department of Homeland Security.”

Over $400,000 Donated in First Week to Continue Building Texas Trump Wall on Border

On Wednesday morning, donations to the Border Wall site: www.borderwall.texas.gov surpassed $400,000 just one week after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced the initiative. The site accepts voluntary donations to the construction of the border wall President Donald J. Trump initiated.

“The Biden Administration has abandoned its responsibilities to secure the border and Texans are suffering as a result,” said Governor Abbott. “The problems along the border are only getting worse due to President Biden’s inaction.”

“Property is being destroyed, deadly drugs and illegal weapons are being smuggled into communities throughout the state, law enforcement is having to redirect their resources, and county judges and mayors are facing skyrocketing expenses.”

“Texas is doing more than any state has ever done to protect the border, but it is clear that more is needed,” Abbott stated. “In the Biden Administration’s absence, Texas is stepping up to get the job done by building the border wall. Through this comprehensive public safety effort, we will secure the border, slow the influx of unlawful immigrants, and restore order in our border communities.”

Florida and Nebraska were quick to offer help as the Biden Administration works to make the problems more difficult to manage.

There have been more than 900,000 apprehensions at the southern border so far in fiscal year 2021, with 180,034 in May alone. As Customs and Border Protection (CBP) grows more overwhelmed by the day, rather than sending aid to the border, the Biden and his sidekick Kamala Harris administration continue to make things more challenging.

Nebraska is sending two dozen state troopers to Texas for 16 days. In a press release, Governor Pete Ricketts stated “Nebraska is stepping up to help Texas respond to the ongoing crisis on their border with Mexico.”

“The disastrous policies of the Biden-Harris administration created an immigration crisis on the border. While the federal government has fallen short in its response, Nebraska is happy to step up to provide assistance to Texas as they work to protect their communities and keep people safe.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) stated, “We have a crisis at our border – a crisis created by bad policies. With the federal government unable to get the job done, Texas and Arizona have asked for help to secure our border and Florida is answering the call.”

DeSantis said officers would be deployed to Arizona and Texas for 16 days.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) is also considering sending aid to Texas. She told Fox & Friends, “Well, securing that border is a national security issue, and we in South Dakota are evaluating that. We’d love to help and we’re working through that process to see if that’s something that we could make possible.”

Abbott Governor has directed the Texas Facilities Commission to hire a program manager to oversee construction of the Texas border wall. This program manager will lead the process of planning and executing the project, and will hire the contractors and subcontractors needed to build the wall. Once hired, the program manager and contractors will identify state land and land that private landowners and local governments can volunteer for the wall.

During the original announcements last week, Abbott was joined by Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Phelan, and Senator Nelson, and Representative Bonnen to sign a document authorizing the transfer for $250 million as a down payment to launch the construction of the wall. an

The state budget allocates 1.1 billion dollars towards border security — a record for the State of Texas.

The Governor also signed a letter to President Joe Biden demanding the immediate return of any land taken by the federal government to build the border wall. Once returned, Texas will talk to those property owners about the possibility of Texas using that land to build the wall.

With that project stopped, Abbott has highlighted the dangers of what he sees as the result of stopping the project, as part of the “open border policies” promoted by the new administration.

“Make no mistake, the border crisis that we’re dealing with right now is a direct result of the open border policies that have been put in place by the Biden administration,” he said at a press conference last week.

From Atlas Rockets to Protecting the Statue of Liberty: 40 Ways to Use WD-40

Herd It Through the Grapevine #6

Long before WD-40 was a household name and a can resided in practically every home across America, it was an obscure product invented for a singular purpose.

Back in 1953, Norman Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, created WD-40 for the Convair aeronautical company to protect the SM-65 Atlas missile–the American military’s first operational intercontinental ballistic missile.

In order to reduce its weight, the Atlas had a very thin steel skin and even thinner steel balloon-style fuel tanks. It was critical to protect the skin and the paper-thin steel fuel tanks from corrosion and WD-40 accomplished that task by both displacing water molecules on the metal and penetrating into the pores of the metal surface.

Although the SM-65 Atlas missile was briefly put into service, as a nuclear missile platform it was, thankfully, never deployed as such. After retirement as a military missile system in the mid 1960s, the de-weaponized Atlas system had a long and fruitful career as NASA’s launch platform of choice–sending countless satellites, the Mercury missions, and the Gemini missions into space.

Although we know that WD-40 is comprised of compounds like hydrocarbons and petroleum, the formula of WD-40 is a trade secret and the product was never patented in order to avoid disclosing the formula.

WD-40 Uses

‘Water Displacement’ Compound.

1.      Protects silver from tarnishing.

2.      Removes road tar and grime from cars.

3.      Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.

4.      Gives floor that ‘just-waxed’ sheen without making them slippery.

5.      Keeps the flies off of Cows, Horses, and other Farm Critters.

6.      Restores and cleans chalkboards.

7.      Removes lipstick stains.

8.      Loosens stubborn zippers.

9.      Untangles jewelry chains.

10.    Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.

11.    Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.

12.    Keeps ceramic/terracotta garden pots from oxidizing.

13.    Removes tomato stains from clothing.

14.    Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.

15.    Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.

16.    Keeps scissors working smoothly.

17.    Lubricates noisy door hinges on both home and vehicles doors.

18.    It removes that nasty tar and scuff marks from the kitchen
flooring. It doesn’t seem to harm the finish and you won’t have to
scrub nearly as hard to get them off.  Just remember to open some
windows if you have a lot of marks.

19.    Removes those nasty bug guts that will eat away the finish
on your car if not removed quickly!

20.    Gives a children’s playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.

21.    Lubricates gearshift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers.

22.    Rids kids rocking chair and swings of squeaky noises.

23.    Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.

26.    Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.

27.    Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.

28.    Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for easy handling.

29.    Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly.

30.    Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.

31.    Removes grease splatters from stove-tops.

32.    Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.

33.    Lubricates prosthetic limbs.

34.    Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).

35.    Removes all traces of duct tape.

36.    Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve
arthritis pain. (See picture above).

37.    Florida’s favorite use is: ‘cleans and removes love bugs from grills and  bumpers.’

38.    The favorite use in New York: it protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.

39.    WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a little on live bait or lures and you
will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it’s a lot cheaper than
the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose.   Keep
in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.

40.    Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch.

41.    It is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray it on the marks
and wipe with a clean rag.

42.    Also, if you’ve discovered that your teenage daughter has washed
and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the
lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! The lipstick is gone!

43.    If you spray it inside a wet distributor cap, it will displace the
moisture, allowing the engine to start.

44. Ants don’t like it.

A Special Message From Dodie Dennis (Retired RN)

With 40 years experience as a licensed Registered Nurse on a cruise line, a Colorado ski resort, and in Phoenix, AZ, I did everything from Operating Room to Immunology to all levels of Newborn Care.

Among my favorite jobs was teaching childbirth and nutrition classes. For the most part, I believe whole foods trump supplements. And eating a nutritious diet loaded with veggies, grass-fed meat, and plenty of good fats is the starting point. You certainly cannot supplement your way out of poor dietary choices. However, even with the best diet, there may be a few gaps that we might want to fill to “supplement” a solid diet.

For example, Omega-3 fatty acids are vitally important to our health. Our Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio should be 1:1 or 1:2. Sadly, the average person’s is more like 1:20. Not only are we not getting enough Omega-3 from sources like grass-fed meats and fish/seafood, we’re also over consuming Omega 6 (e.g. vegetable oils, excessive nut consumption) – a double whammy.

Personally, Jack and I don’t eat enough fish to get adequate Omega-3s due to concerns about toxins, mercury, etc. That’s why we welcome a new sponsor to “supplement” with Green Pasture Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO).

Welcome Green Pasture Products to CleverJourneys

I use the word “supplement” loosely here, since FCLO is really a whole food. Not only that, but it’s also a traditional food with a long history of use. Quite the opposite of highly processed fish oils.

Green Pasture’s website

Fermented Cod Liver Oil is simply cod livers fermented naturally to extract the oils. The cold-processing method maintains all the fat soluble vitamins. Most fish oils on the market are heat processed. What’s worse is that they’re then bleached and deodorized, and since most of the vitamins have been removed or destroyed, synthetic vitamins are added back in.

FCLO contains more than Omega 3’s. It’s also a great source of Vitamin A and Vitamin D, and contains small amounts of Vitamin K2, Vitamin E, and various other quinones.

If you want to try out the amazing benefits of Fermented Cod Liver Oil, or maybe your current supply is running low, we highly recommend Green Pasture.

Green Pasture’s website

They are the only company to supply naturally fermented cod liver oil that we are aware of (and the one recommended most highly by the Weston Price Foundation).

Check out Green Pasture’s website now and tell them CleverJourneys sent you.

In addition to Fermented Cod Liver oil, Green Pasture also sells other products like high vitamin butter oil, coconut oil, and coconut ghee.

Green Pasture’s website

Jack likes Green Pasture because they are an American business that share the same patriotic values we do.

Check them out today! God Bless.

Energy Facts Liberal Media and Globalists Don’t Want You to Know

America now produces more oil and gas and holds more coal reserves than any nation, surpassing Saudi Arabia in 2013 as the largest producer of petroleum hydrocarbons in the world.

Because of these recent increases in domestic energy production – driven by market forces, pro-energy policies, and American ingenuity, under President Donald J. Trump, America became a net energy exporter, meaning we export more than we import.

If America continues to lead by fostering free markets and energy entrepreneurship, America and her allies will benefit from a wealth of energy and ideas, thereby increasing our economic and geopolitical security.

Within days of the Biden Administration White House takeover, it became obvious this is not their plan. Democrats are on course for a socialism Globalist stance. We can preview where this will take us going down this path by looking at Europe.

Average electricity rates in Germany have risen by more than 50% in the last 10 years

According to Eurostat, retail electricity rates for an average German household rose from 20.6 to 30.5 Euro cents per kWh from 2007 to 2017.

This increase is primarily due to taxes and levies to support renewable energy generation and integration, including a 6.88 Euro cent per kWh levy for direct payments to renewable energy producers.

Average retail prices for U.S. households were 12.9 cents per kWh in 2017.

Direct taxes and subsidies for renewable energy cost and estimated €24 billion in 2017, and IHS estimated that net export losses due to high electricity prices were €52 billion from 2008 to 2013.

Despite hundreds of billions of Euros in taxes and subsidies over the past two decades, CO2 emissions in Germany only fell by 9% from 2003 to 2016 because Germany is forcing out nuclear generation, the only practical means to achieve zero carbon electricity generation, and relying on coal to support intermittent renewable resources.

The recent experience of Germany and many other countries, including many U.S. states, has shown that mandates, taxes, and subsidies that support renewable energy and increase power prices are regressive, distort markets, and do not move the needle on global climate change.

By most accounts, the U.S. contains enough reserves of fossil fuels to sustain current production levels for many decades to come.

The latest estimates show that the U.S. has at least 310 billion barrels of recoverable oil, enough for almost 80 years of production at current rates.

North America has over 2 quadrillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas, enough for more than 60 years at current production rates.

The lower 48 states have enough recoverable coal to meet current demand for 350 years. And more resources are being found every day as the energy markets go to work.

Energy demand and production will always have their booms and busts due to economic cycles and price fluctuations, but the fact that more than 80% of the energy we consume comes from petroleum, natural gas, and coal will not change in the foreseeable future.

Thanks to the shale revolution, domestic production is rising to satisfy that continued demand. The Energy Information Administration correctly projected the U.S. would produce oil and natural gas at record levels in 2018 and 2019 and became a net energy exporter in 2020.

Before Biden, we were making great progress in technological advances and the efforts of energy entrepreneurs, we were unlocking resources once thought unattainable and achieve sustainable fossil fuel production.

Is it any wonder China will soon earn its third wind turbine farm in Texas on land they know is rich in fossil fuels?

Sam Bass and the Lost Treasure of Cove Hollow

#1 in our Accounts of the Old West series.

Accounts of the Old West by CleverJourneys

The “27 Club” refers to the famous who died way too early at the age of 27. In modern days Jimi Hendrix, Curt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, and Amy Winehouse are renowned “members.”

Following a train robbery outside of Big Springs, Nebraska, Sam Bass and other outlaws got away with 3,000 twenty-dollar gold pieces, along with jewelry and money taken from the passengers.

After dividing the loot, the outlaws split up. Bass went to his hideout at Cove Hollow near Denton, Texas. Some believe he buried his treasure at Cove Hollow, although others believe he just as easily could have spent the money. He soon formed a gang, robbed more stages and added to his caches.

Bass made plans to rob the Williamson County Bank in Round Rock, Texas. But his friend from Denton, Jim Murphy had made a deal with the law to turn Bass in.

Murphy telegraphed the plan to officials causing Texas Rangers to be dispatched to Round Rock to apprehend the robbers.

Williamson County Deputy Sheriff Caige Grimes was waiting and watching a ways off. When Grimes started coming towards the store he was shot and killed.

Other lawmen, who had also been lying in wait, opened fire. A deputy named Moore fell, wounded. Bass also took a bullet, but was still on his feet. The robbers quickly went for their horses hoping to escape. One was hit and killed as he mounted his horse, but another got away.

While getting away, Bass was shot again in the backWho actually shot Bass has been the subject of much controversy. Some say Texas Ranger George Herold shot him. Others say it was Private Dick Ware. Ware was in a barbershop getting a shave when the outlaws killed Grimes. With his shave only half done, Ware had rushed out of the shop and fired at the fleeing outlaws.

Sam Bass

Several witnesses said Bass, even as he lay dying, said the man who shot him had shaving lather on his face. The outlaw, however, did get up and flee. Texas Rangers caught up with him in a nearby pasture.

Bass died from his wounds later on his birthday, July 21, 1878 at the age of 27, thus making him one of the original members of the 27 Club.

He was buried in the cemetery at Old Round Rock. A small monument was erected over his grave by a sister in 1879. Part of the inscription reads, “A brave man reposes in death here. Why was he not true?”

With his death went the knowledge of the location of his treasure caches at Cove Hollow.
