A retired police officr, now ex-school bus driver in Pennsylvania’s Littlestown Area School District chose his principles over his paycheck. Bureaucrats demanded he ditch his red “Make America Great Again” hat.

Dave Bonheff drove Bus #73 for Krise Transportation. This was under contract with the district. He had worn the hat daily without issue for years.

Children even nicknamed him “Mr. Dave MAGA.” The situation changed when one student complained. His supervisor gave an ultimatum: take it off or hand over the keys.

Bonheff refused. “They called me in the morning and said, ‘Dave, you gotta take the hat off.’ I said, ‘I’m not taking it off.’ They said, ‘Well, if you don’t, you can’t drive.’ I said, ‘Then I guess I’m not driving.'”

He handed over the keys before afternoon routes and walked away. No regrets.

“There’s nothing in this hat that says anything about partisanship,” Bonheff told WGAL/CBS 21. “It’s about making America great again. Making America great is what we should all strive to be. Anybody that doesn’t want America to prosper? I take issue with them.”

He doubled down: “This isn’t political to me. This is patriotic. I wore it every day. … I’m not gonna change who I am for a paycheck.”

And in closing: “If wearing a hat that says make America great again offends somebody, that’s their problem—not mine. I love this country. I served it as a cop for 25 years. I’m not backing down now.”

The district and contractor hide behind a vague policy. It bans “divisive” symbols in schools. Bonheff sees it clearly: this is censorship dressed up as sensitivity.

One complaint from a child and a hardworking American gets forced out for showing pride in his country.

Principles over paychecks. That’s how real patriots roll. Bonheff just made his route great again—by refusing to bend the knee.
