The Left’s Hypocritical Recent History of Public Banning

Looking back to our own personal experience, we (Clever Journeys) lost considerable readership when Apple, Google, and Amazon colluded in 2021 to wipe the entire Parler platform off of the internet. Tens of thousands of other creators and businesses lost income overnight.

Today, leftist Big Media, politicians, commentators and pundits are going berserk over the high number of people, institutions and businesses being called out for their deplorable commentaries and posts over the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Perhaps they have forgotten their own madness and history of how they publicly condemn. Recall:

● Donald Trump – In 2021, Twitter permanently suspended Trump’s account (retracted only after Musk bought the platform), Facebook banned him for 2 years, and YouTube, Snapchat, Twitch, plus Shopify all suspended him indefinitely.

● New York Times – In 2020, the company forced the resignation of their editor because he allowed Republican Senator Tom Cotton to publish an op-ed.

● Megyn Kelly – Fired by NBC in 2018, with her morning show canceled after comments defending Halloween costumes.

● Tucker Carlson – Taken off Fox News in 2023. Leftist activists bragged about advertiser pressure campaigns which helped force him out.

● J.K. Rowling – Blacklisted from events, attacked by activists, and pressured out of projects for speaking her mind.

● Mike Lindell – In 2021, MyPillow was pulled from major retailers, banned from Twitter, and targeted with advertiser boycotts, all because he disagreed with them on who won the 2020 election.

● Alex Jones – Simultaneously banned in 2018 by YouTube, Facebook, Apple, and Spotify. Clearly coordinated.

● Roseanne Barr – Fired by ABC/Disney, with her hit show being canceled in 2018 due to a single tweet.

● Kevin Hart – In 2018, the left launched a campaign to boycott him due to gay jokes he made years prior, forcing him to step down from hosting the Academy Awards.

● Joe Rogan – In 2022, the Left pressured Spotify to drop him, running coordinated campaigns and advertiser boycotts due to supposed “COVID misinformation.”

● Gina Carano – Fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 for social media posts that didn’t fit the Left’s politics. Dropped by her agency, too.

● Steven Crowder – Demonetized from Youtube in 2019 for gay jokes, suspended in 2021 for “election misinformation,” again in 2022 for insensitive comments deemed “harassment,” and again in 2023 for hosting Alex Jones.

● Dave Chappelle – In 2021, Netflix employees staged a walkout, demanding his comedy special be pulled for “transphobia.” (And in 2022, First Avenue Night Club in Minneapolis canceled his show due to protests from their progressive staff.)

● Little House on the Prairie – removed from some school libraries in 2018 and 2021 for its portrayal of indigenous people.

● The Catcher in the Rye – challenged in NJ (2019) and OR (2023) districts by progressive parents due to “misogynistic attitudes” and “harmful perceptions of gender”.

● Charlotte’s Web – Challenged in Kansas (2019) and Utah (2022) by progressive animal rights advocates due to “promoting harmful industry slaughter practices.”

● Gone with the Wind – removed from some public libraries and school reading requirements in 2020 for “romanticization of the Confederacy.”

● To Kill a Mockingbird – removed from many school’s curricula in 2020 due to “racism and stereotypes.”

● The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Removed from many school districts in 2021 for “reinforcing racist tropes.”

● Dr. Seuss – In 2021, six of the author’s books had to be pulled due to leftist cries that Dr. Seuss was “racist and hurtful.”

● Of Mice and Men – removed from some schools in 2022 due to its problematic depiction of mental disability.

The left has no respect for speech or “artistic integrity.” They’ve routinely violated our social contract by initiating “consequence culture” campaigns against anything which mildly offends their contemporary mantra of “words are violence.”

The patterns are clear; coordinated advertiser boycotts or demands from activist groups, ruining of careers, public celebrations to reinforce social adherence to their ideology, and journalistic lies to obfuscate those realities.

Unless the modern left evolves into a coalition which stops trying to cancel creators and content, they have no right demanding grace from the right. Spare us the cries for Jimmy Kimmel. The left made these rules. Now they can choke on them.

  1. Oh yes! Great list. I’d forgotten about some of those things. I have zero sympathy for those on the left who have lost their jobs for behaving so badly. Also, near as I can tell, the government has not really been involved. This has been individual citizens putting pressure on employers. That’s actually the free market, the power of consumers and it’s a good thing to see.

This post was deleted by Google on 13 November 2024.  It was first published in 2020.  It had over 4000 pageviews.  Why would Google delete this post four years after it was published?  I later found it on the Wayback Machine/Internet Archive.

If one of your posts is deleted, you might find it on the Wayback Machine on the Internet Archive. If one of your videos is deleted by YouTube, you might find it on Bit Chute or Rumble.

  3. One had to look no further at who ran the administration during those years.

Add the Dukes of Hazzard TV programming due to the confederate flag on the General Lee.
