Earlier in 2025, between 900 people, by United Nations estimates, and 2,000 people, by Congolese government estimates, were killed by M23 in the offensive on Goma, the regional hub of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on the Rwandan border.

M23 is the latest in a series of Rwanda-backed militant groups that have been vying for territory and valuable natural resources in the eastern Congo since the late 1990s.
On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted the signing of a peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda today in Washington, D.C.

It was the signing of a Declaration of Principles by foreign ministers from each nation one week ago, which pledged mutual respect for sovereignty and an end to military support for rebel groups.
The agreement is likely to include joint security terms to reduce the activity of armed groups and criminal organizations.

“The eastern part of the Democratic Republic has seen 30 years of conflict. Durable peace and long-lasting economic development is not going to be easy, but it is important,” Secretary Rubio stated. “Durable peace comes before economic development. It also will allow millions of displaced people to return to their homes to safer communities.”
The secretary of state continued, “A durable peace in the Great Lakes region will open the door for greater U.S. and broader Western investment, which will bring about economic opportunities and prosperity. And it will also help advance President Trump’s prosperity agenda for the world.”

It appears that Rubio is smoothly moving forward with DJT’s prosperity agenda as if he’s done it multiple times-but he probably hasn’t. Rubio is an awesome Secretary of State. 🙂

This looks good, and we sure want it to work. Those people have truly suffered.
