Texas Designates Venezuelan Gang TdA as Foreign Terrorist Organization

Governor Greg Abbott announced on Monday that Texas is launching a comprehensive, statewide operation that will aggressively target the dangerous Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) to disrupt their criminal operations and deny their foothold in the state during a press conference in Houston.

Speaking at the Texas Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Southeast Texas Regional Headquarters, the Governor also designated TdA as a foreign terrorist organization, directing DPS to elevate them to a Tier 1 gang and to create a TdA Strike Team that will identify and arrest TdA gang members.

“The recent entry and expansion of the vicious Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, is a dangerous and deadly problem facing our state and nation,” said Governor Abbott. “Our top focus is the safety and security of all Texans. To address this looming threat, I have ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to launch a statewide operation directly targeting Tren de Aragua to deter and disrupt their criminal operation.”

“I am also officially designating Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization. Our goal is to defend Texas from the growing threat of the gang. We will not let them use Texas as a base of operations to terrorize our citizens. They have a target on their back, and we are going after them. Texas is the wrong state for them to try to do business in.”

“El Paso County Attorney’s Office filed a lawsuit Aug. 27, alleging the owner of the Gateway Hotel, located at 104 S. Stanton St. in Downtown El Paso, of operating without a valid certificate of occupancy since 2018,” an updated report on September 11 from the El Paso Times established.

“The El Paso Police Department has received 693 police calls for service related to criminal activities, including assaults, gang involvement, and suspected prostitution the lawsuit states.”

According to affidavits from the El Paso Police Department, the hotel is a hub for suspected gang activity, particularly members of the Venezuelan criminal organization Tren de Aragua, the same gang whose members took over the housing complex in Aurora, Colorado.

The defendants in the lawsuit are the Gateway Hotel, Gigante Enterprises LLC, and Howard “Danny” Yun, the owner of both.

The El Paso Times also revealed that illegal alien crime activities have been a multi-year problem including going as far back as the “previous operator of the hotel, Song U. Chon, was convicted in federal court in 2011 of money laundering and a scheme to smuggle into the United States thousands of undocumented immigrants, many of whom were housed at the hotel over several years. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.”

  1. My favorite response from Liberal Democrats is that immigrants don’t commit as many crimes as Americans. The first mistake these Democrats make is to ignore the fact that we are talking about illegal aliens, not immigrants. Their second mistake is to pretend their statistics are accurate. We know that Democrats running high crime cities don’t report their statistics. Their third mistake is to ignore the obvious. Countries that don’t like us will happily send their criminals to us, and they are doing so.
