My Reply to Someone Who Will Cast a Protest Vote

Voting Policies Over Personalities

A good guy, a friend, indicated he will not vote for Trump or Harris. I am not sure if that means he will cast a protest vote for a third candidate, a write in candidate, or not vote at all.

Here was my response:

“As a Christian, we all need to be engaged in the 2024 presidential election. The freedoms we enjoy and the country that we love are in jeopardy. But Christians must unite if we are to make a difference.

If our voices are not heard, and our votes are not counted, then every evil, demonic philosophy will fill the vacuum.

But what if you don’t particularly like either candidate? What if you feel apathetic about this year’s election?

Voting is not just a right, but a duty. I will never turn away or waste a vote.  Under Christ, I will be involved in the political process.

1. What can we do to advance the Kingdom of God for the glory of God, and to stem the tide of evil in our land until Jesus comes?

2. God uses flawed, sinful people. His Disciples were flawed & sinful. I am flawed & I sin.

3. I will always vote policies over personalities.

4. We need Godly, conservative Judges that enforce the Constitution.

5. Border Security & Immigration are no brainers. It is not even debatable.

6. Religious Liberty is critical. I am not Catholic, but how dare Biden, Harris, Garland have Catholics arrested because of expressing their religious beliefs. This is America and I will not waste a vote (on someone other than Trump just to  protest) on this issue.

7. God created a man and a woman. I will go on the Biblical wisdom regarding Biological Sex, AND I rigidily oppose a government that forces bakers to bake cakes for people they don’t want to; or forces people not to pray at public sports or school events. I am going to vote for the candidate who does not weaponize government against these freedoms.

8. I support candidates that support American and Godly Family values.

9. I support Life.

10. I will not turn my vote into a worthless protest essentially throwing it away.  Voting is not just a right, it’s a duty!

As for my family, vast majority of my friends, my neighbors and loved ones, we see the wisdom of a strong military, respect for law & order (police, emergency responders, firefighters), American energy dependence, small business support, and freedoms of religion, speech, right to bear arms, assembly, unreasonable search & seizure, due process of law, trial by IMPARTIAL jury,  and Federal Government only has those powers delegated in the Constitution. If it isn’t listed, it belongs to the states or to the people.

God Bless America”

I still vividly remember in December 2005 when watching Iraqi citizens voting to elect their first free, permanent parliamentary government. As the polls opened, many of us wondered if citizen’s felt safe enough to attempt casting a vote.  Soon, individuals slowly walked up, placed their vote and proudly raised their purple finger from an ink well.

First vote ever

The late civil rights icon and U.S. Rep. John Lewis said, “The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have in a democracy.”

In 2018, the Democratic primary for Baltimore County executive in July was decided by just 17 votes.

In 2016, the margin of victory for Donald Trump in the swing states that he won was less than 1 percent.

Also, that year, a Virginia House of Delegates race ended in a tie out of more than 23,000 votes cast. The tie was broken by pulling a name, placed in a film canister, out of a bowl. Republican David Yancey was declared the winner. The result was heightened by the fact that the win gave Republicans control of the state House by a single seat.

Again, in 2016, the Vermont state Senate Democratic primary was determined by a single vote out of more than 7,400 cast.

A Vermont state House seat was determined by one vote out of 2,000 in 2016.

In 2014, Republican candidate James M. Kelcourse defeated Democrat Edward C. Cameron for a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives by a margin of just 10 votes.

And in 2008, Alaska Republican Mike Kelly kept his seat in the state legislature by beating Democratic candidate Karl Kassel by just one vote.

  1. Very well said.

Back from the trip. What I saw of America is so beautiful; blessed. We cannot afford to waste votes and risk losing this precious country. People all over the world are counting on us and praying for America to rise up, forgiven and healed. This is it: now or never.

  2. So true. Those who waste their vote on a third party or write in are only hurting the country. There isn’t a lesser of two evils either, and I would never vote that way. There is only one evil in this campaign. So that leaves Trump as the only choice to save America.

  3. Don’t forget the others on your ballot. One of the most important and first things a member of the House or the Senate is to vote for the leadership. So you are not just voting for the individual candidate but also who they are going to vote for leaders and chairs of committees. The state and local races are important too. A Democrat candidate represents the Democrat platform and a Republican candidate represents the Republican platform.

As a woman, I always vote. The sacrifices that it took to get civil rights for women make voting an obligation for me. Democrat Woodrow Wilson imprisoned and had the Silent Sentinels tortured. They were only accused of blocking a sidewalk but really Wilson had them tortured for carrying signs that called him Kaiser Wilson for denying them their civil rights. BTW, I am a crazy cat lady(childless too) that supports Trump and other MAGA Republicans.
