6 Months After Suspicious Fire Catastrophy, Maui Residents Still Not Home

Are Biden’s Feds Slow Walking Relief Actions Deliberately?

Closing in on six months since the catastrophic fires in Maui, Hawaii, FEMA waited until the initial mainstream media coverage subsided before they began diverting affected homeowners to the Small Business Administration (SBA) for assistance.

Many believe the state and federal government don’t want residents to return so they can develop the land into high-priced millionaire owned properties for political payback and Deep State control reasons.

“It was frightening to hear. We heard reports from other communities about investors coming in after a disaster and buying up parcels of land from families who were out of options and had nothing left to their name but their land,” said Tamara Paltin, founding president of Lahaina Community Land Trust this week.

Finally, debris removal from residential properties in Lahaina was allowed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green has been publicly threatening to shut down all short-term vacation rentals in West Maui if enough property owners don’t step forward to house displaced residents from the Lahaina Wildfire.

The assistance is not like what other Americans have received in other disasters (like Hurricane Harvey, for instance) but in the form of a loan, not “government assistance.”

For those who did get denied by the SBA due to bad credit, FEMA gave them approximately $3,000, which includes the Biden regime’s $700.

Perhaps helping out more would take away from the funds going to Ukraine or southern border protection.

From the 100% of applications that were processed, many were denied, and the remaining applicants were instructed that they needed to cover the loan with insurance up to 80% of the loan’s value.

For this insurance to work, homeowners must list and collect inventory of their current or replaced belongings and show that it totals the value to that 80% for coverage (Cellphones and vehicles do not apply).

Greeting Joe Biden

If they can afford to purchase such insurance, at approximately $500 for every $10,000 worth of belongings, they meet loan eligibility requirements.

In the initial stage, SBA provided 20% of the loan, but homeowners signed and agreed to 100%. Today, approaching half a year after the fires, only 12% made it through the process above.

Out of that 12%, almost 80% of those approved, continue to wait for their funds to be distributed.

Among the excuses for slowwalking these loans, include:

• Systems are updating.

• Supervisors are not present to review loan paperwork.

• “There has been no dispersement schedule created.”

• “We are unable to assist, and you need to talk to your case manager.”

“The reason why most are calling into the SBA are because the case managers don’t return calls, don’t pick up their phones, don’t return your emails and just wait it out hoping you stop asking for the remainder of the funds you were approved for but never received,” one misplaced resident informed.

Roadblocks still exist

“If you do the math regarding the insurance to the loan, many won’t be able to apply for this so-called assistance to rebuild their lives. Many have no choice but to opt out.”

“This news report of it states aid, but it’s more of a bank loan advertisement than anything,” he said. “In every land grab scenario, the friends of the bankers always get paid. In this case, it’s the insurance companies.”

In addition to $250 million for hotels and rental assistance to individuals, FEMA is currently in the process of leasing 1,500 units to house survivors, and is planning and designing, two housing sites on Maui to house up to 500 additional families — totaling an additional $450 million.
