Baby Boomer Christmas Memories

Christmas times of yesteryear.

Pine, cinnamon, sugar cookie, candles are must haves for a boomer Christmas. The house needs to smell as Christmasy as possible.

Gender topics amongst other socio-political topics are pretty taboo at the point, but boomers are just starting to get a grasp on all these new ways of thinking, “Have you seen that Tiny Tim? He’s really something, isn’t he?”

This color wheel was technology during Boomers childhood. Today’s technology isn’t a boomer’s forte, especially bluetooth wireless technology. How on earth will they be able to play their Spotify playlist if they can’t connect the speakers?

Boomers are the masters of the greeting email as well as the “forwarded email.” For boomers, email is still “fun” so they will send funny pictures, anecdotes, and jokes through email. Oh…and Christmas Greetings!

Every boomer worth his/her salt will have at least one Elvis Presley Christmas album on their playlist. He’s the boomer king of Christmas

Unfortunately, boomers are targets for “digital scams.” They grew up with greeting cards sent in envelopes with a postage stamp. Today’s emails saying that their Christmas gift order from Amazon has been suspended until they provide their credit card are totally fake. But a lot of boomers believe it!

Happy Days

Boomers don’t consider Christmas sweaters “ugly”, they’re just “festive”. They’ve worn the same sweater every year since the 80s and there is not an ounce of irony in that.

“Baby boomer” is a term used to describe a person born between 1946 and 1964.

Because of their large numbers and the relative prosperity of the U.S. economy during their working careers, baby boomers as a group remain economically and politically influential.

The generation of baby boomers emerged after the end of World War II when birth rates across the world spiked. The explosion of new infants became known as the baby boom. During the boom, 76 million babies were born in the United States alone.

While several million baby boomers have died in the decades since, immigration to the U.S. has helped replenish the supply. As of late 2019, U.S. Census Bureau estimates put the baby boom population at 71.6 million.

As the longest-living generation in history so far, boomers are at the forefront of what’s been called a longevity economy.

Boomers spent about $9.1 trillion in 2022 on goods and services—a figure that’s expected to increase to $15 trillion by 2030.

The first members of the baby boom generation reached the traditional retirement age of 65 in 2011. By 2029, every baby boomer will be 65 or older.

Increasing life expectancy has made it likely that baby boomers will spend more time in retirement than their parents did.

The electricity bill is totally worth it! Boomers don’t mind wasting electricity as the younger generations, so for them, the more lights the merrier!

The average life expectancy for a 65-year-old American today is 18.3 years, 16.9 years for men and 19.6 years for women.

Sears Wish Book

A 65-year-old man today can reasonably expect to live to age 82 and a 65-year-old woman to age 85. And many Americans, as we’re seeing, now live into their 90s or even 100s.

Did you have one?

Today, only 58.1% of baby boomers between age 56 and 64 had any type of retirement account.

How many of these television programs, cartoons and movies can you identify?

Merry Christmas Baby Boomers
