Celebrities Who Began Their Careers in Horror Movies

Many of Hollywood’s most beloved stars first faced monsters on screen. Before red carpets and blockbuster fame, they encountered killers and eerie creatures.

Their earliest roles came in horror flicks — a genre that gave them their first shot before they became household names.

• Johnny Depp – Long before Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp met his fate in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), playing Glen, one of Freddy Krueger’s unlucky teenage victims.

• Jennifer Aniston – Years before Friends made her a global icon, she starred in Leprechaun (1993), battling a mischievous and deadly creature.

• Tom Hanks – The two-time Oscar winner’s early appearance came in He Knows You’re Alone (1980), portraying a psychology student caught in a terrifying stalker story.

• Kevin Bacon – Bacon’s breakout chance was Friday the 13th (1980), where he played camp counselor Jack, who didn’t survive Jason Voorhees’s wrath.

• Leonardo DiCaprio – Before Titanic fame, young Leo fought off alien critters in Critters 3 (1991), a quirky horror that became his big-screen debut.

• George Clooney – Clooney’s charm appeared early in Return to Horror High (1987), where he played Oliver, one of the unlucky victims.

• Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Long before Seinfeld, she made her debut in Troll (1986), stepping into a fantasy-horror role as a mystical character.

• Rooney Mara – Her first film role was in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary (2005), playing a high school student facing a deadly urban myth.

• Paul Rudd – Rudd’s debut came in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995), where he portrayed Tommy Doyle, battling the legendary masked killer.

• Renée Zellweger – Before Bridget Jones, she took on Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), portraying a teen trapped in a terrifying nightmare.

The stars battle slashers. They also fight supernatural forces. These stars prove that even the scariest beginnings can lead to legendary Hollywood careers.

  1. I’m not a fan of horror movies, so I’ve not seen any of these. Horror movies must be an initiation into an acting career. If you can’t scream, bleed, or play dead, then your career is over. 🙂
