U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, on Monday, told his fellow congressional GOP members that “the principles that unite us as Republicans are far greater than the disagreements that divide us.”

Jordan announced Oct. 4 that he intended to run for Speaker of the House and defeated RINO Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., who made a surprise entrance into the speaker’s race hours earlier as an anti-Jordan alternative.
A vote is set for noon on Tuesday.
The U.S. House has been without a speaker for two weeks. U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out Oct. 3 when he brokered a deal with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.

Over the weekend and on Monday, Jordan and his supporters went after holdouts trying to win them over.
Jordan needs 217 votes, nearly all of the House GOP majority, to win the speakership. Democrats are expected to support House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. Jordan fell more than 50 votes short during a caucus vote on Friday.
“I feel like he can bring together everybody, from the moderates to the ultra conservatives, and Republicans across the spectrum,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York. “The bottom line is we’ve got to get back to work. We don’t have any time here to waste.”

Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania argued that those angry shouldn’t take it out on Jordan because he supported both McCarthy and Scalise.
“Feelings are hurt,” Perry said. “But Jim didn’t have anything to do with that. So they need to assign their ire, if you will, to those who they think deserve it – but certainly not Jim Jordan.”
Jordan has represented Ohio’s 4th congressional district since 2007 and chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
