Facing the fact that he likely may not be alive soon, Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and his team have gone over the details of what a surrender from the Venezuelan strongman would be like with US State Department officials.
Given the fact that the State Department has a bounty of $50 million on his head, it could be a wise decision for Maduro and his family.
Trump informed Maduro during a phone call that Maduro, his wife and son would be allowed to leave Venezuela safely, but they must do it immediately, sources said.
“First, Maduro asked for global amnesty for any crimes he and his group had committed, and that was rejected.”
“Second, they asked to retain control of the armed forces — similar to what happened in Nicaragua in ’91 with Violeta Chamorro. In return, they would allow free elections,” a source said.
President Donald J. Trump is aware of Venezuela’s influence over stolen elections using their computer technology. He also knows about violence through their drug and crime cartels and their threatening influence in politics. Trump is going all out to protect America.
This morning the Interstate Commerce Commission prosecutor’s office began frantically closing its Caracas office due to a lack of “real progress” with Venezuela.
A “NOTAM” restricting all general non-commercial aviation has been introduced over parts of Venezuela’s southern border due to military operations until March 1st, 2026.
Sunday, President Trump confirmed that he had a phone call with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Trump’s declaration that the airspace around Venezuela is “closed” came after he told Maduro in the phone call that the U.S. would consider using force if he didn’t step down voluntarily.
“We have a war that’s coming through fentanyl, through opioids, through cocaine,” US Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) told “Fox News Sunday,” referring to the avalanche of drugs from Venezuela to the US that Trump blames Maduro for and is trying to stop.
“It killed 100,000 Americans last year,” McCormick said of the drug trade. “That’s twice the number of people that died in eight years of Vietnam — 4,000 Pennsylvanians.”
Also on Sunday, Russia announced it is evacuating Russian citizens from Venezuela. ATORUS (Association of Tour Operators of Russia) confirms that special flights are being prepared to repatriate Russians currently in Venezuela.
The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, said that the Attorney General’s Office will be activated. It will “support” the families of Venezuelans killed in US attacks on drug boats in the Caribbean. He asserted that these families “are receiving threats,” without specifying from whom.
In a press conference, Rodríguez previously stated that investigations into cases related to Venezuela “are only activated when CNN or The Washington Post publish a story.”
Yet, today he announced an official investigation into the deaths in the Caribbean. This comes two months after the first incident and following reports published by those same media outlets.
Meanwhile US military aircraft are increasing their flying near Venezuelan airspace.
US repatriation flights to Venezuela were suspended after Trump’s warning about closing Venezuelan airspace.
On Friday, an Airbus A319, usually used by Maduro, landed in Santa Elena de Uairén, on the Venezuela-Brazil border. So far, there is no information that Brazilian authorities have been contacted.
Reports from locals in Táchira, Venezuela say the government is deploying militiamen and army units to the Colombian border. They are also placing forces at nearby tollbooths. This effectively moves to militarize the area.
In the Caribbean Sea, at least one US Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet is flying off the coast of Venezuela
International media outlets have begun live broadcasts from Caracas following Trump’s announcement. Fighter jets are flying over Valencia, Maracay, and Naguanagua.o

The New York Times reported last week that Donald Trump and Maduro spoke by phone before the designation of the Cartel of the Suns as a foreign terrorist organization took effect. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also on the call.
Trump warned he will “begin to stop” the advance of Venezuelan drug traffickers by land. “Also, by land it’s easier, but that will begin very soon. We warn you: stop sending poison into our country,” he stated.
The U.S. includes Cubans and Venezuelans on the list of 19 nationalities of “countries of concern” whose residents will be subjected to a “rigorous review” of their green cards.
Maduro initially ordered his country’s Air Force to be “alert, ready and prepared” to defend Venezuela.
