Almost daily, more  accusations and evidence are being lodged against USAID for staging coups or being involved in various regime changes throughout the world over the last 9 years.

Nicaragua (2021)

USAID has been accused of funding regime-change operations aimed at bringing about a “market economy” and purging Sandinistas from the government.

These accusations were based on leaked documents outlining plans for such activities.

Kenya (2023)

In May 2023, USAID unveiled a $1.5 million effort aimed at “empowering women to adapt to climate change in northern Kenya.”

Venezuela (2019)

USAID was involved in the controversial aid delivery on the Venezuelan border to support Juan Guaidó’s coup attempt.

The operation was seen by some as an act of military aggression rather than humanitarian aid.

Cuba (2014)

USAID was revealed to have secretly developed a Twitter-like platform called “ZunZuneo” aimed at fomenting unrest and potentially leading to a regime change.

This was part of a broader effort to undermine the Cuban government.

Bolivia (2019)

Following the ousting of President Evo Morales, there were accusations that USAID had been involved in funding opposition groups and social movements that led to the political instability and the eventual coup.

Haiti (2015)

USAID was accused of funding the opposition in the 2015 Haitian elections, which some claim helped lead to the electoral coup that installed Jovenel Moïse as president.

Guatemala (2015)

USAID was alleged to have supported efforts leading to the resignation and arrest of President Otto Pérez Molina, although this was framed as part of broader anti-corruption efforts.

Ecuador (2015)

Accusations emerged that USAID, alongside other U.S. agencies, was involved in funding indigenous groups like CONAIE, which called for an uprising against President Rafael.

Argentina (2015)

There were claims of USAID involvement in the political scenario leading to the election of Mauricio Macri, though direct evidence of coup involvement is less clear.

Georgia (2023)

The Georgian government claimed that USAID was contributing funds to coup preparations through its support of civil society organizations, particularly after a training session by CANVAS, which was alleged to promote revolutionary activities.

Myanmar (2021)

Although not directly linked to a coup, USAID’s redirection of $42 million in aid following the military coup was seen by some as an attempt to influence the political situation or support pro-democracy groups.

Although these accusations often come from sources critical of U.S. foreign policy and should be considered within the broader context of international relations and geopolitical strategy,  the involvement of USAID in these events can range from direct support to opposition groups to funding broader democracy and governance programs that might indirectly influence political outcomes.
