A Santa Claus Christmas Story

So how old were you when you found out the truth about Santa Claus?

There are a whole generation of children, who are now in college and in their last years of high school, that I had the privilege of donning a Santa suit for as an official representative of the North Pole each Christmas in the Texas Hill Country.

It was fun riding on the top of the Boerne city firetruck bringing good joy and love to elementary school children. Every now and then I will see one of these young men or women’s Santa picture and chuckle knowing it was me as St. Nick.

Here is a story from a friend of mine that has been doing this Santa business for many years.

Please enjoy it:

A SANTA CHRISTMAS STORY

A few years ago, on the day before Christmas Eve, Santa was out in his normal clothes checking on his good little boys and girls. It was a very cold, windy and drizzly day. It was so cold and windy even Santa was having a difficult time.

Santa felt a little disturbed because he kept hearing a small child’s voice calling his name, however since he was alone in his sleigh, disguised as a truck, he knew there was no one around.

Not understanding why, Santa decided to check in at a local Walgreens to see what gifts they were offering to families with small children and to insure they were a good price.

Jumping out of his sleigh he ran towards the door and started to go inside when all of a sudden he hears a childs voice calling him. “Mr., Mr., do you want to buy something from us”?

Santa could see just to the left of the door a child and just past her were her mother with 2 smaller children and a grocery cart.

“What are you selling little girl,” Santa asked? The litle girls handed him a coffee cup filled with cookies and candy wrapped with cellophane and a little red ribbon.

Santa says, “Oh how pretty, are you selling these for your church or your school”?

“Oh No”, she replies. “My mommy and I dont have much money and we move a lot, so mommy said if we could make these cups and sell them, we can use the money to buy us Christmas presents.”

Santa’s heart burst with tears just hearing this. Santa knelt down to look straight into her eyes and asked, “Baby, do you believe in Santa Clause?”

She looks at him and says, ”Yes I do, but he doesn’t come to our house. I don’t think he knows where we live. I have been calling his name, but I don’t think he hears me. “

Santa kept looking at the little girl fighting back his tears and was about to say something when the little girl says, “I don’t want anyhing for me, I just wish Santa would bring something for my little brother and sister and something for my mommy. But if you will buy something, we can buy little stuff for Christmas”.

By now, it was too hard for Santa to handle and he summoned his Elves to come immediately and get all the information from the mom of her little family.

Santa looked deep into the little girls eyes and could see that her heart was pure.

“Little girl”, says Santa, “I know Santa Claus.”

“Really? Really? Will you ask him to please get something for my little brother and sister and maybe something for my mommy? Tell Santa I will give him all the money we make today if he will. Please Mr. I have been a good little girl.”

Santa says, “I promise Santa Claus has heard you and I promise that Santa will be at your house for Christmas. I promise you that with all my heart.”

Dodie & me with a real reindeer

On Christmas Eve as Santa descends upon the house, his elves start singing and the jingle of his reindeer could be heard outside. The little girl runs and opens her door and standing there was Santa, with his big jolly belly, his Ho Ho Ho, his red suit, white hair and beard and his big bag of toys.

“He came mommy, he came, he came” as she is jumping as high as she could. She yells to her brother and sister, “come here Santa is here, Santa is here”.

Santa walked into the house and sits on a big chair and takes the little girls hand. “You remember talking to my friend yesterday?”

“Yes Santa. But I did not believe him. I wanted to, but it was hard for me. But, I did keep saying your name.”

“I heard you,” Santa tells her. “And I am here”.

Santa then opened his bag and delivered everything the little girl prayed for not only for her baby brother and sister but also for her mommy. The little girl received all her special gifts from Santa with the biggest hug and thank you Santa could give.

“Thank you,” he says “for showing me that Christmas is not forgotten and the spirit of Santa Claus lives on. Always believe, always believe” and with that he said “Good Night.”

Such is the faith of a little child. Merry Christmas.
Love,
Santa
